SG is convinced or has been convinced that he is a world class central midfielder - a cross between someone like kaka and keane. he isn't - he's a powerful individual athlete with the ocasional ability to perform the spectacular. rafa KNOWS THIS FACT. a team cannot be built round someone like this. considering SG's past - defeatist talk in champion's league winning campaign, his two summer leaving media frenzies, i'm the man celebrations, even his autobiography - and the constant media frenzy about where he's played at the moment, i think from what we know of rafa, he is not the type of man to be impressed ith a player like SG and therefore would be glad of the opportunity to be rid of a problem that a supposed "asset" like SG provides.

Spot on. It has all the hallmarks of the Fergie vs Beckham battle of a few years ago. Fergie won that one and shipped out the overpaid, over-rated prima-donna. Beckham was replaced on the right by Ronaldo who, despite being a hateful little @!$%, is just the type of player we could do with now.

Amazing how opinions change so quickly. When Gerrard said he was leaving for Chelsea I bet you were all suicidal! He's an incredible player whose just not on top of his game at the moment. He's set such high standards for himself it looks bad on him when he's not living up to them.

His 'I'm the man' celebrations come from the frustration he feels at constantly being slagged off by press and fans.

I just couldn't believe how low his dropped and his lack of commitment and enthusiasm at half time in the Champions League Final, or the F.A. Cup final for that matter.

He's carried our team on his own shoulders many a time and won games on his own.

tbh, i'm sick at all the bashing in general, whether it is bashing rafa or gerrard, or pennant or speedy etc...

people split in to 3 categories on here, those who bash gerrard, those who bash rafa and those who are sick and tired of everyone always finding someone to blame...

Gerrard has got it all to his game, maybe discipline re position could be improved. The attention he gets from the media is simply because they feel his talent is "going to waste" as were not a title winning side at the moment. His quality only makes the dip in form stand out more because we all KNOW what he is capable off.

Where as Beckham was a 1 footed self styled media whore.

Know I know you didn't exactly compare them as players but to say it's like the Beckham V ferguson drama is laughable

It's fuzzy logic. The teams not playing well so lets sell our best player, that'll fix it.

his name is the first one sung at every liverpool match
his name is on the back on most liverpool fans jersey's in the world
he gets a ****load of plaudits from the press everyday.

As you say I'm not comparing them as players but the situation of manager versus star player. If SG won't or can't play where the manager thinks he's best then there should only be one winner. SG as captain should be setting an example during these difficult times not moping around the pitch complaining at everyone.

There's no use being a so-called top player if you're allegedly arguing with the manager, not contributing to the team and looking totally disinterested. This is the situation that AF had with DB. If we can get big money for SG now (30-40 mill) and get in a quality winger or two then, as good as SG can be, it may be better for the team overall in the long run.

And so they should be. So there's nobody with anything negative to say about Gerrard?????? You've only got to look at this forum to see that some people would like to sell him!!!

Everything he does is scrutinsed so much, MOTD Press etc etc. On football Forums if he has bad game then his misses is having an affair with scouse a gangster who's about to move into his house which in turn is causing him to lose sleep and is too tired etc etc etc.

I'm pretty sure you're a fan of his Marky, I'ld just like everyone to give the lad a break. And those who continuously slag him off to remember just what he's done for us. He'll come good.
