I agree Steve.. We have the depth in the squad, and Louis aside I feel we are in better shape than 2013/14 season. Barring too many injuries we could push the top 3 very hard this season.

Yeah I think the depth in the squad is key. Hopefully if we can put teams to the sword early on in matches we can rest key players & keep the fringe players interested & in form.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I guess time will tell if that is the case Steve. We have the talent in the squad now, hopefully BR has the ability to handle the depth of the squad and rotate accordingly.. If we want to have any success this season then he'll have to. Keeping our key players as fresh and injury free as possible will be paramount.

the subs need to chip in with goals when they get there chance which is an area that we've struggled with I think. Not sure what the secret is though tbh.

Trouble is the goal scoring players on the bench seem to be getting over looked, it cannot be down to pace as both Ings and Origi both have that and they score goals.. Ibe is a talent for sure, but he is not ready to be automatic choice ahead of two players with pace and better goal scoring records.. Based on the game in question Jordan was a a wasted substitution in the end he was way off his normal game. The secret is simple Steve, the manager need to give minutes on the pitch to players bought in to get you goals, why he's not now that is the question.

I think it is harsh to say they are being over looked at this stage - we have very obviously been focussing on building a solid defence. Hopefully starting at West Ham we can bring some fluency to our attacking play.

It's not really harsh, especially as young Jordan Ibe has been out of sorts since day 1 of the new campaign. I doubt we will change that much for the game against West Ham, if at all. The only change I see is if Henderson is fit to play, he'll come in for either Lucas or Can. I would agree if we are on top after 65 mins we might get a chance to see one of our new striking options getting a little run out. I think they will be used more in the cup games than the league, depending on injuries of course...

I think the like of Ings and Origi aren't getting games because we are still getting up to fitness, alot of our subs have been for midfielder who have started to tire or the fact that Ibe and Lallana weren't working out as hoped, or to bring Firmino in and give him a few mins.

IMO when players are back up to match fitness levels and can play a full 90 and we have a our system nailed down we will probably see these guys coming on regularly.

I think people are overly harsh on Ibe. He was poor against Arsenal but other than that he has done a job. The same criticisms were leveled at Sterling as he learned to be a more tactical/complete player.

I think we would have seen Ings if Coutinho hadn't scored against Stoke.

Sterling did get criticism for his overall play, but he also produced the occasional piece of magic and beat his man, left a defender for dead etc. Ibe hasn't actually done anything of note. He just looks like he might.

I don't find myself critical of him at all, I was being opinionated not critical and was based on my observation. Regarding those that are critical or harsh, even at this stage, I think they expected at little bit more from him from the off this term, are people being overly critical or harsh, well it's a matter of opinion isn't it.

For what it's worth I am actually a big fan of Jordan Ibe, he has a bright future and could prove to be a major asset in the coming years.

You are right Ings was due to come on for Coutinho, and the goal changed things, although there were other players struggling at the time too.

Pretty sure if we'd been cruising in a game, 2 or 3 goals to the good, we would have seen Ings or Origi coming on by now. However, as the games have been tight, we have not yet had that luxury. No need to hit the panic button just yet, I think they will get minutes soon enough.

Ridiculous amounts of games to come yet. Europa will be particularly draining. Saw some of the manure game against Brugges and was thinking Smalling, Depay, Blind and Rooney will lose their sharpness quickly at this rate of game time.

I'd have backed Ings to get a goal tbh. His work rate Is awesome too especially against a tiring defence & midfield.

I expected more from Ibe this season too so I'd take him out of the spotlight for a while & give him a few cameos off the bench for a while.
