    Formations, line ups and stuff

First the squad - with the proviso one or two might yet leave or arrive (though doubt the latter)

    Goalkeepers - Mignolet, Bogdan, Fulton
Full Backs - Clyne, Moreno, Enrique, Gomez (Flannagan)
Centre backs - Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho, Toure, Ilori
Midfielders central - Lucas, Can, Milner, Henderson, Allen, Rossiter
Midfielders attack - Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino, Ibe, Markovic, Teixeira
Strikers - Benteke, Ings, Origi, Sturridge (Borini)

That's 28 players if ignoring Flanno who won't be back for a while and Borini who will almost certainly be gone. I'm including Enrique as the full backs are a bit thin without him. It is possible that both Ilori and Teix will go out on loan though I'd prefer them to stay and divide time between the EL squad, cups and the U21s.

Clearly that's enough for two completely different starting 11s that do not look like a complete embarrassment.

How would you play them and divide them up between the various competitions?

Can I just quickly say, I would play with 3 centre mids every game: Can, Henderson and Milner

All 3 have the ability bust a gut to support the front 3 while also, between them, could build an understanding of who sits back and plays a more defensive role (covers for the possibility of a counter) while the other 2 support the attack. I don't think you necessarily need a designated DM when you have men behind the ball...it's the threat of the counter that's the sticking point.

It's impossible for me to put out a strongest XI, I just can't. I keep trying but I get stuck at trying to accomodate Lucas, Hendo, Milner, Can, Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke and Sturridge into the team.

        Apostrophes, apostrophe's and punctuations.
        Oh I don't know.

          Horses **** horses, isn't it?

Formation wise, at home against the lesser sides, I'd go with two up front with a diamond behind. Away from home and against the best teams, the 4-3-3 we've seen in the first three games looks pretty solid without completely sacrificing creativity.

For individuals it's who's fit and fresh for each game. Resting the best players (Coutinho, Milner, Henderson, Benteke, Firminho, Sturridge) when possible for the lesser comps and trying to keep them fresh for the league and later stages of the cups.

You do know Lynn Truss recently had a breakdown don't you?

The last that was seen of her she was on a medical trolley being wheeled into the Priory, shouting something about a calling and the whole of the internet I think.

I had never heard of her. Bing (via Wikipedia) tells me that she

is an English writer and journalist. Her book Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation was a best-seller in 2003. In August 2014, Truss was one of 200 public figures who were signatories to a letter to The Guardian opposing Scottish independence in the run-up to September's referendum on that issue
On reflection, I should have written

                  Apostrophes, apostrophe's and catastrophes.

I dunno, we're all communicating via the written word more and more, so a basic grasp of this stuff shouldn't be beyond us. I'm quite happy to fly the flag for correctness until such time that I too end up in The Priory. Hopefully for more glamourous reasons than this though.

The former of course. Unless your using Rodgers as a verb abbreviating "his". Which would be admirably creative.

Nah the latter, Rodgers' would indicate that it was the plural of Rodger, ie many Rodgers - but he's a singular person with a name that ends in "s", so the "s's" should apply.

The Rodgers' dog (the plural of Rodger, who all owned the dog)

                      I think I'm right. Therefore I am.

Plurals and apostrophes don't mix. As illustrated in this post.

Assuming everyone is fully fit, my starting XI would be....

                          -------------------------Mignolet--------------------------
                          Clyne----------Lovern------------Sakho----------Gomez
                          --------------------------Lucas----------------------------
                          ----------Milner-----------------------Can----------------
                          ------------------------Coutinho--------------------------
                          -----------Benteke------------------Sturridge------------
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

What the **** are you doing? This thread is for goofy comments about punctuation and the English language. (or thank God someone has got this back on topic!)

The only problem here is that you have dropped the captain. I would to with Lucas in the starting 11 but politically its impossible in a League game.

                              Admirably back on track.

                              You prefer Can over Henderson?
