Regarding that first goal - **** header by Skrtel or not, but has anyone else noticed that this team has absolutely no ****in positional sense at all when it comes to collecting rebounds, clearances, deflections, loose balls from tackles, etc. We've had three players today operating on the right (more or less), Clyne, Firmino and even Can, and where the **** were they when the ball was cleared to Cresswell or Payet or whoever that was? And I don't just mean the defenders, but every single player, not just today, previous games as well, we are second to EVERY single ball that's not in anyone's possession. The 2-0 goal really was bad luck (besides that embarrassing howler) after we've blocked the initial attempt, but that can't always be the case, can it?? Maybe I'm just better at remembering all those moments that piss me off, but I feel like the opposition gets a second chance with almost every clearance or tackle we make in our own half, whereas on the other end of the pitch those things usually result in a counter for the opponent rather than a second chance to us. It's pathetic.

And one other thing - our crossing... I'm not even gonna say anything, but I'll be so incredibly happy when a cross attempt from Clyne, Moreno, Lallana, Ibe, etc., actually manages to beat the FIRST player that's closing them down and then reach its target. I know it's not supposed to be our primary game plan, but when you've got Benteke waiting in the box and the ball never even gets near him... Useless.

some people jumped all over Skrtel in the match thread, it was ridiculous and very unfair. I know none of us want to slate the young lad, but it was his fault unfortunately.

I thought we tried to run before we could walk today. We've looked solid so far but today went more expansive, both fullbacks went forward and it looked like last season all over again. I'm all for keeping a regular back 5, but Lovren needs the left back to stay next to him and Gomez clearly isn't an attacking full back. If we are pushing the fullbacks on, why not play Moreno? He surely has to drop Lovren now.

Were we actually playing a more expansive game because if so how were we so bad going forward as well? Benteke was isolated up front, it always felt we didn't have enough people at the back and the midfield did nothing of note. It felt like we were playing with about 7 men for the whole game.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

            It did didn't it :/

I thought so though..I mean you had Gomez almost playing as a left winger at times. The centre backs pushed up when they could. I think the problem was West Ham did sit back but pressed quite aggressively whenever we got near them, no one really had time to turn and run at them and the front 3 were getting lost in a sea of bodies. They played well to be fair, but getting a goal within 3 minutes was spawny as ****.

              No it wasn't.
The first goal is 100% Skrtel, it's an appalling attempt at a defensive header, it's more like a CF knock down to his strike partner than a big, dominant defensive clearance.
Head it back the way it came from, head it out for a throw in, head it out for a corner.
What you don't do is flick it downwards, behind you, inside your own box.
With regards to Gomez's part in the goal he's actually in front of the lad who scores, he isn't sleeping or lets him come across inside him but that's neither here or there.

              It was Skrtel's fault.

For me the first goal was a combination of errors, port initial header from Skrtel but on the stretch, a lack of tracking back from Clyne and our midfield and Gomez was half asleep allowing his man to get across him.

An all round poor goal to give away which was infuriating at such an early point of the game and sort of set the tone for the rest of the game.

Too many stupid errors yet again at the back

mate you hate Skrtel more than anybody on this forum.

Like others have said, shared responsibility.

No cohesion, no teamwork, a complete shambles and appear to be turning on one another.

And that's just us lot on Est.

Having watched it again I was perhaps a little harsh solely blaming Skrtel, there are a number of players who have to take a share of the blame. Also I don't know how he manages to get that shot in through Gomez' legs, 9 times out of 10 that gets blocked.

After 3 decent results it is one bad one. The performances haven't been great but at least we are picking up points. We need to write this off and move on.

Before the start of the season Id have probably been happy with 7 points, annoying we've not taken the chance to have more after the first 3 games but that's how it is

Need a positive reaction from the players and the manager for the next match.

Hopefully Swansea take points off the mancs today, that'll help.
