Wonder how many people are pissed off Advocaat didn't wait until tomorrow for there bets
It's not gonna be Klopp i don't think, and im gonna hate myself a wee bit for being disappointed in Carlo, but here we go again, positive thoughts for the future!
Ancelotti would make sense. The timing indicates we have someone wrapped up - Kelly says it won't be Klopp and that Ayre had just met with Carlo in New York. A positive resolution to that meeting quickly followed by a sacking would fit the narrative.
I know everyone wants Jurgen, and I voted for him in the poll, but Ancelotti would be a fantastic and genuinely exciting appointment. I made the point about a week ago that he doesn't fit FSG's 'model' quite as well, but at some point you have to stop worrying about nebulous grand strategies and start actually winning.
Ancelotti's flexible and happy to work with the squad he has, and is particularly good at patching together an unbalanced XI in a sensible way. See what he did at Milan playing three or four playmakers in midfield, or going DM-less at Madrid. His ceiling is lower than Klopp's, who can really get a team playing above their level, but Carlo's not going to take 6-12 months to instill another 'philosophy.' I'd back him to get the squad back up to speed quicker than anyone else.
And that's probably a good thing, because frankly we don't need major surgery. The performances have been disappointing, but not abject. If not for monumentally ****ty conversion rates, we'd probably be in the top four. If Ancelotti can come in and get us performing to par very quickly we could still have a good year.
We need someone to make an impact. But also someone who can get a song out of Lovren, Markovic, Allen, Milner, Benteke. All players who are not at it for whatever reason.
