    Southampton (H) - Build Up

Good that we are at home having played on Thursday night.

The real question marks are all around our strike force.... with Benteke and Firmino both getting minutes last night, do people reckon that one (or both) of them will start on Sunday? I think Beneke will.

Hopefully the rumours that Sturridge is out for another month are just rumours...and he takes a place on the bench at least.

Apart from that, I suspect we might see Lucas back in for Allen but that pretty much it.

For me, the team looks imbalanced trying to fit Coutinho and Lallana in the same team. Maybe the way would be for Coutinho to drop back into the midfield 3 and Lallana be the #10???

A win would be a great start to another busy week. And with this weekends fixtures in the league including United v City, Arse v Everton and WHU v Chelski then a win could bring a big change the league table for us.....

I'd be tempted to rest Coutinho for this. Not in great form & has struggled since he pulled out of the Brazil squad with an injury.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I'm assuming Sturridge on bench. Coutinho has been badly off in recent games, trying too hard but not as mobile as he has been. Rest him for Firmino

      ----------Mignolet
      -Clyne--Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno
      -----------Lucas
      ----Milner---------Can
      -Lallana---Benteke---Firmino

I'd be well pleased with that. Can't wait for Hendersons return.

Think Coutinho has to start tbh. Even when out of form he looks the most likely to produce. The big thing with Phil is he needs targets to hit. Whenever we have strikers missing he disappears a little bit.

I think for him to kick on to the next level he needs to do what Gerrard did, stand up and be the man when the strikers either aren't there or aren't producing. I don't think he's miles away from that. It's whether or not his shooting can improve further.
          Forwards.......

Press conference snippets (the most intriguing is bolded)

Klopp: "We started to analyse Southampton this morning. We were together for an hour I think, I know much more about Southampton."

Klopp: "It's obvious what their strength is. Organised of course, they try to press high with six players. [But] we have to play football."

Klopp on Pelle: "A good thing to do to give him the ball. A good physical player but very technical."

Klopp also names Dusan Tadic as a key player for Southampton, with his crossing ability requiring attention.

Klopp: "It's not an easy game, the next challenge, but we are at home."

Klopp on Sturridge: "It's not much better. With Daniel's injury we have to see day by day. If he can train normal tomorrow he's an option."

Klopp: "He will have more treatment today because there is still some fluid on his knee. He will have another scan."

Klopp: "We have to decide better when to shoot or pass. We have to be better in the box."

Klopp: "In my first season at Dortmund we had 15 draws. We only lost four games but we had 15 draws. If you want it's a half-win!"

Klopp on pressing: "Isn't one of the oldest things you say in football that defending begins at the front?"

Klopp: "We cannot play with two or three offensive players when we stay in front. You can do this if you're a world-class team."

Klopp on asking his strikers to work hard: "They have to close spaces for us so the rest can defend easy."

Klopp: "If you do this in an intelligent way, it's easy for the rest to defend, it's easy for you to get the ball back."

Klopp: "They have to defend like all strikers, Cristiano Ronaldo can defend."

              He's not wrong. lol
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

He is the one player we have that can create that little bit of magic even when he's not playing well, but as you say he needs targets to hit.

To push on he really needs to add goals to his game in the role he is playing he should probably be looking to get 10-15 goals a season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Right now he needs to do less not more - currently he is attempting to find a pass in difficult areas and also score when the chance may be marginal. I'd be tempted to drop him back into the centre and use him as the transition player. Starting from deeper he will have more time and fewer decisions to make with the ball (also he won't be wasting possession trying to shoot) - just find the pass to Clyne/Moreno going wide or which of Lallana/Firmino/Benteke/Sturridge is playing.

By the sounds of Klopp's press conference it'll be -

                      Mingolet
                      Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno
                      Lucas
                      Milner Can
                      Firmino Lallana
                      Benteke
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

That team has goals in it, just need to get the approach right and we'll start banging them in.

even if he's been **** he has to start. Lets see what he's like with options and runners ahead of him. If anyone could drop it would be Milner, he's been very poor but he'll start as he's acting captain.

I'd start Firmino as fresh legs needed & he needs time on the park to get up to speed. Coutinho to come on against a tired opposition.

How good would a win here feel hey. We do need to start winning at home if we are to be a chance of getting in the top 4 I think. West Ham keep winning & unless we start soon they could be the surprise package this season.
