Been reading a few articles about how quiet Anfield is recently and I have to agree with them really. I can't remember the last time I heared 'poor scouser tommy' or many other songs which required a few verses for that matter. It's really disheartening the atmosphere at Anfield currently. I know we are not having thr big European nights no more and a lot of the clientele were used to that but even under Evans Houllier and Souness (roughly time I started) we were not having that many (more than know I admit).

I know there are numerous factors behind this, it's just sad. I wondered about the club getting some of them fans who start off songs in. See what happens. And I know the commentator had been there since before I was born but he hardly inspires anything, unless your a la's, beatles or echo and the bunnymen fan.

Every set of away fans this year has made more noise.

It's become quite embarrassing. Almost all other grounds are quiet - the home fans anyway, bar maybe Palace and Stoke - but it's particularly bad at Anfield. You can hear the players talking to each other ffs.

Scouser Tommy was sang at Klopps first league game at Anfield

Fields of Anfield Rd has been sang at both of Klopp's league games at Anfield

We've been mainly **** at home for about 18 months, that's all there is to it. The near-title-winning season 2013-14 was as good as any season at Anfield for the last 20 has been atmosphere-wise. All that meeting the bus, getting in early, explosive starts that blew teams away in a cauldron of noise. We need a team we can get behind again, and I'm sure it'll come with Klopp, given time.

This is a good article that sums it up well for me:

Crowd is rubbish when they don't believe.

People aren't just happy to sit there and enjoy the premier league. Big club expectations mean that seeing other teams turn up and boss you isn't fun.

As Klopp says, team needs to show the crowd that they can perform.

I hate to say it but it's become boring to go the game, almost like a chore.

We are so boring to watch, so predictable, especially under Rodgers during the last few months....I really hoped Klopp coming in word change it, give the place a lift, but last Saturday was the same old.

I have no idea what to do to change it. I really think, as a season ticket holder, that the performances on the pitch need to improve and that will get the crowd going....it was bouncing when we were going for the title a couple of years back...it was exciting and you couldn't wait to get the game.

Now it's, predict a 1 - 1 draw, go the game, wait for full time and get the hell out of dodge.

Another thing I might add. That may play a part....certainly from my point of view....is the kick off times...

A Saturday 3pm game.....I'd prob have a quiet night Friday, knowing that me and my mates will be getting the train to town at 11, be drinking by the ground by by 11:30, a good few hours, having a laugh, getting all up for it, by time you head down the game, your half cut. Looking forward to the match, you're up for it more....plus you know after the game, you will be meeting back up and carrying on...it was a whole day event.....

These fuxking Sunday games kill all that for me. I know I'm only speaking for about half a dozen of us.....but come the Sunday games. We've all been out all weekend, are hungover, can't be arsed, it's Sunday and you know you have got **** to sort when you get home for work, so you drive, don't drink etc......you can notice it, match day traffic on Sunday is well heavier than Saturday, as more more people will drive as they won't be out drinking all day with them having work the next day. I defo think that plays a part, maybe not massive but it's a noticeable difference to me
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Performances have defo improved & I believe fatigue played a part on Sunday. Injuries too but fatigue has to be taken into account. And that's when the fans should have got us over the line. Instead ppl got up & left.

Performance related is a cop out in my opinion. Our support is just ****, too many tourists (I dont blame them for coming, I've been abroad to watch football but if I go and see Barca I cant sing because I dont know the language and dont support them anyway, I'm just there to check em out!), not enough kids, too many boring old cunts who just sit there and moan, too many scared to open their mouth because their accent is different (probably with good reason to be fair given some of the knobheads we have following us!), too many restrictions from stewards (SIT DOWN!!!) (Watch your mouth), bizzies, cant do this, cant do that etc etc. It's a load of things and performance is way, way, way down the list. Yeah we'll get up for it when a near title decider comes along but thats about it. Dortmund were in a relegation battle most of last season and their support didnt suddenly disappear because they were performing bad. Old Trafford atmosphere has always been **** when they've been pissing league titles (the best atmospheres ive heard there were actually under Moyes!), the Etihad is an absolute disgrace etc etc so I think saying it's down to performance is too easy. The same complaints about atmosphere were on RAWK as late as March 2014 anyway, this 2013 2014 was amazing stuff is a complete myth. City was boss, Spurs was, Everton and Arsenal were alright, the rest were pretty meh.

The people in the ground who do want do something are just too spread out aswell, so any noise sounds like nothing or just turns to nothing pretty quickly. Away's are a good example of that, absolutely bouncing on the concourse where everyone who wants to sing and have a beer congregates, **** when the game starts and everyone is stuck between people who cant be arsed to sing, tourists etc etc. London away's tend to be the worst anyway but at Arsenal this year I had a French fella next to me who anytime I looked at him was texting on his phone! A few seats down to the left was some bellend with a weird green giant ipad thingy. These people had 6 credits yeah? I dont think so. So there are loads of problems. But I'm not sure how they are solved, the club dont give a **** about getting more kids in and it's also not easy to get the people who do want to get involved seated together.

You are right but it was half sung by the Kop for a verse and a bit

Fields of Anfield Road is sung to death nowadays, it seems to be the only one that most people know - I'm so sick of it now.

Half the problem is that we don't have any songs for players anymore - think back to Rafa's time with "the best midfield in the world", Luis Garcia's song, the Torres song, the Rafa song etc etc... Recently we've lost the Suarez song and the Gerrard songs - there's nothing now, and nobody for the crowd to truly get behind. The nearest we have come to a new song is just shouting Sakho over and over again.

Its not just performance related, its also a reflection of the anodyne players we've recruited since Rodgers came in. Can you imagine a Joe Allen song? An Origi song? Even Benteke hasn't got anything, whereas Balotelli had one days after he was signed! Its nuts! To be fair, most of these players haven't earned it.

The saddest thing is that those plastic Chelsea fans we love to hate are vociferous in their support of Jose at the moment, whilst we have one of the most exciting managers in world football at the helm and its so quiet you can hear somebody fart in the Centenary.

I believe that there's a few major factors in the dullness of the Anfield atmosphere one of which is that there are a lot of tourist supporters. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, and I have absolutely nothing against them going to our games, in fact I'm proud to support a team where people will travel hundreds of miles to watch one game. However the only way to buy tickets is through a tout, and these tickets are going to be dotted everywhere around the ground.

There's also people that come to the game who don't want to stand up for 90 minutes, sing and shout. They're happy to sit and watch the game, they've paid their money and that's their choice I have nothing against that either.

Another is the team performance, but in all honesty it's a two way thing. A bit of support might spur the players on to do a bit better and the players doing a bit better might win us some more games which them makes us as fans happier.

I think we would benefit from a singing section because all of the lads who start the songs seem to be dotted all around the ground. Get them all together in one section and the songs will spread. I'm fairly certain Palace implemented this and it's worked wonders there. But you could also argue that they aren't a fashionable club and the people who go to the palace games are genuine palace fans. Unlike some who come to watch us, and like some of us who go to watch other teams (I include myself in that I've been to watch Ajax, Barcelona and Dortmund play domestically in the last year or so.)

                              Good post.

In reality, it is like that for the majority of football clubs though. I have been to LFC v United, the manchester and north london derby games in the last couple of years and have been surprised how crap the atmosphere can be for such big games.

I think a large contributing factor of this has been the older crowd going to football matches these days. The root cause of this is the ticket prices. They have squeezed and squeezed the fans with regard to this and it has resulted in less and less younger fans going to games. Older people who have their mortgages paid off and don't have kids to spend all their disposable income on can justify it and afford to go to the match.

The irony in all of this is that as TV money has increased - and prize money has increased - it might actually be beneficial to clubs to slash ticket prices. Why? Because a better atmosphere could result in more wins, more points, more success and ultimately more prize money. What we are likely to see soon is clubs investing in measures to make the atmosphere better - so they will spend some of the extra ticket money on fixing the issues created by increasing ticket prices!!!

Look at Germany. Their stadium atmospheres are brilliant. But the next time you are watching a bundesliga game / highlights, take note of the crowd and you will see that it is predominantly young male supporters. They go in groups, go for a few scoops and go and watch the game. In the UK now it is funny how there are a load of fans that sit by themselves - not near any friends.

How do they fix it?? I am not really sure to be honest. Why would LFC drop ticket prices now? In reality they will have a 53,000 (?) seater stadium next year and the new stand will need to start paying for itself. Singing section is effectively the KOP anyway so to have another designated "singing section" will be pretty futile in my view. They also are not going to start kicking out older fans because they need them to pay for the stadium!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see "crowd sound" blasted out over speakers introduced in stadiums in the next couple of years. And that will end up turning even more of the hardcore fans away!!!

When I was a kid back in Cork, I used to watch LFC games and think "wow....the atmosphere there sounds electric". The thing that pisses me right off now though is the fact that if you watch a game in a busy pub these days, there is generally a better atmosphere than actually going to the game.
