I've just been looking at our signings since Rafa left in that time we have spent £427m (gross) on players
    List here:

I think that it is difficult to argue that more than a quarter of that money has been well spent (Suarez, Henderson, Sturridge, Coutinho), the jury is still out on a few others, but alot of the big money signings haven't had the impact we would have hoped they would have had and this current squad has alot of them: Benteke £32m, Firmino £29m, Lallana £25.5m, Lovren, £20m, Allen £15m, Sakho £15m (plus Markovic £19.8m and Balotelli £16m who are out on loan). For the first time in as long as I can remember I wouldn't be too upset if any most players in our squad were moved on I can't see anyone who is untouchable or anyone that I would be gutted to see lose. Previously we have lost our best players to Real Madrid and Barcelona, I can't see us having to worry about them taking anyone from us in the summer, and sadly I think that says alot about where we are On paper I think we have a decent squad but there are so many players who just don't do it on the pitch.

The saddest thing about this squad is that we have been hammered by Watford and West Ham, we sit 9th in the table and we have deserved all of it. IMO alot of the players need to look at themselves because at least half of the side are passengers.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Rodgers wasted a lot of money on absolute dross. We always seem to be five or six quality players short of a decent team.

I remember when it used to be only two or three, we are progressively getting worse! I think if we can get a solid spine, make us hard to beat and go from there.

Everyone knows Rodgers uses MOTD to scout players.

The problem is that I currently feel that even our better players aren't players who you would want to form the spine of a team around, they are really the players that complement the spine.

Under Rafa we had a good spine of players: Carragher, Hyypia, Alonso, Mascherano Gerrard, Torres etc the problem with that side was that it had a Riera, Babel or N'gog making up the numbers. For me the players we have in the squad now are probably better players than the players who were making up the numbers in those days.

The problem with this squad is everyone is at the level of 'making up the numbers' and we don't have the world class players who make up the spine of the side can make things tick and make a difference in game. So while we may only be 3 or 4 players away from a good side they are probably the most important (and expensive) ones.

We are a team of pussies...say it all the time, any team that get at us can just bully us and take us apart

We need to focus in building a spine....find a top class keeper, centre half, centre mid, striker.

I do believe there are good enough players in the squad to be a good side but we lack that quality spine so badly

                Bloody spot on.

Coutinho and Sturridge are head and shoulders above everyone else, and one's incredibly inconsistent and the others sat out more games that he's started.

Its an absolute shambles of a squad for the outlay and needs a massive overhaul.

There's really not one player in the entire squad that I'd be upset about leaving, even Coutinho would only muster a little sigh.

I think Moreno, Can and Henderson are good players (as well as Coutinho and Sturridge). The rest range from average to very poor.

We need four players (but we always did!) right down the spine. GK, CB, CM, FW get those positions sorted and everything will look much better. I'm annoyed with plenty of things but you know what really hacks me off? The lack of fight in the whole team,

The opposition know that if you target the CBs and GK you will get something from them, that against Chelsea, Soton, and Watford the side has conceded within 5 minutes is just unacceptable regardless of anything else.

2 good strikers and CB's in the league don't know how to handle it.

We're a soft touch and the first half today was pathetic but we've looked good at times this season, its a tough one for Klopp because he can't really trust this team.

6-1 at Saints and now this run of form, what must he be thinking?

EDIT: Has to be said as well Sakho was dire today, worst I've ever seen him play.

We don't need hard men or wrecking balls, we need technical skill and ability on the ball which is something most of our side lack. Rodgers bought a lot of **** and him hanging around for too long has hurt us.

This is Skrtel for one of Newcastle goals
