When was the last time a team improved by going into a season with a weaker squad than the year before? I’m struggling to think of a single example

              Spurs last season?
              Oh I don't know.

They were my first thought, but I don’t think they had players leave.

That's why I put it in quotes. It was the response given to me when I made similar posings in the transfers thread. The originator will understand.

If everyone stays fit and even if we sign nobody we’ll still be in with a shot of the title. The thing is the lack of depth for the front 3 means not signing someone is a massive gamble. We are rolling the dice again hoping we maintain fitness and form from Bobby, Mo and Sadio.

Klopp picked arguably his strongest 11 to start and that had Gini and Ox (central midfielders) out wide.....that shows the depth we have. We need Mo and Bobby to hit the ground running and for Naby and Shaq to get fit. Mane needs and deserves his rest so hopefully we don’t miss him the first few weeks.

I know it’s only one season and it doesn’t matter but we’ve looked v poor. Last season we beat United, City and Napoli whilst looking good so it might be a signal. We could cop a hammering vs City in the charity shield

We’re talking about Sturridge and Moreno?

I’d back Brewster to be able to match Sturridge’s contribution in goals and minutes last season. Neither are particularly high benchmarks.

Moreno, played about 300 mins all season, not even worth talking about.

I’d like additions as much as anyone, but I don’t see us as being weaker for letting go of 2 of the fringiest of fringe players.

Mane and Salah had a nice vacation last summer. This year their vacation pretty much started a week or two ago. To keep them fit all season we need to keep them away from the first team until end of Sept. By which time the title may not be in our hands unless City **** up proper. We go into the season with hope if not confidence.

What a weird, random thing to say.

I find it staggering that we have yet again not took the opportunity to build on a very successful season. At present I think the squad is worse off, last season we squeezed every last drop from the squad, will be very difficult to repeat.

We’re definitely weaker than we were with them. No cover at fullback and extremely thin in terms of centre forwards. When you add the potential increase in fixtures this year, it doesn’t look great.

We went near perfect with what we had last year, I’d be genuinely surprised if this squad can reach that level again. I’d be surprised if we’re as lucky with injuries to our front 3 as well, given the amount they’ve all played in the last 12 months.
