LFC Preseason Thread

Loads of chances and no goals was pretty much the story of the end of last season in three cup finals. Not saying yesterday was related to this trend, but it would be nice to start converting chances soon.

Not sure why this game is causing such discussion...at this stage in the pre-season how far in the squad is in its fitness training tends to be a major factor. All it means really is that Utd is further in than us.

I think it meant that they took it a lot more serious than us. For us it was about gaining some fitness, but for them it was about impressing the new manager, playing for a place in the team etc. they had their strongest 11 out ffs. Meanwhile we were googling who our right back is. We had 4 starters who will probably play 0 minutes in the league this season… We changed the entire outfield after 30 min- and again at 60 min.. they didn’t make any changes til after that. And paid the price, with de gea going off with a calf injury..

If we all had the choice, I’m sure we’d all take the 4-0 loss, over a 4-0 win, with Allison going off injured!



That said, I’m happy that we play them early in the season, so we can put it right and remind them of their place..

Finally we get a game to talk about. Transfer season is over for us, and reading about this part of Ireland arguing with that part of Ireland gets a bit boring after a while ( ), so while football is on, I will grasp the opportunity to talk football!

We are all bored out of our nut and miss the football. It's meaningless friendly but it's vs the mancs so it's something to talk about. I reckon if we smashed them 4 zip, we'd be chatting a wee bit more about it regardless of the significance of the game.

Do people think we aren't signing a midfielder because Klopp will look to Elliot? I like Elliot, he didn't get a chance to push on after his injury and is clearly talented but I do hope we don't live to regret not signing a top class, proven CM in this window. Elliot and Carvalho are talented kids and need time to grow into the side, whether or not they are up for regular football vs the very best sides is up for debate. I think it's the only position we are lacking in.

Have to agree. City probaly have 6 or more midfielders before you see a drop in quality, obv De Bruyne is on a diffrent level

We have FAbinho & THiago and then the rest have as many good as bad games.

Tbf to Elliot I cant remember him letting us down last season, Maybe Klopp thinks he could be ready with Keita/HEnderson/Jones/Carvalho backing up but not sure I would trust any of them to have a great impact on the team over a sustained period.

On the flip side bring Jude in now and none of the above get a game!

I think we are probably looking at our preferred options (not necessarily just Bellingham) aren't available at the moment. I think we probably think we have enough for a year and want to give the likes of Elliott and Jones a chance to show what they can do and maybe that reduces the number of players we need to bring in and perhaps which midfield positions we need to prioritise next summer.

Just over 2 hours till the Palace friendly. I read that we expect less players to play so more minutes for the big hitters.

More minutes in legs is all we are looking at for now I should imagine.

Doubt too many supporters care too much about the results at this point. Be nuts to be getting worried about results in the pre season friendlies, especially the early ones.

Mad though that the season starts properly in just over three weeks and we have five or six (maybe more as not kept track of any extra friendlies) to fit into that three weeks.

Come August 6th as long as the players are match fit and ready to go, we will be sorted.
