This is an interesting part in the Joyce article about Leoni
The sales of Sepp van den Berg to Brentford 12 months ago and Jarell Quansah this summer to Bayer Leverkusen (Liverpool have a buy-back clause which also includes a pre-agreed contract should he return), together with the permanent departure of Nat Phillips to West Bromwich Albion, means there is a route into Arne Slot’s plans for Leoni.
Does anyone know if that’s usual. I’ve never heard of that before.

From memory, no. As I recall they weren't that impressed with him. He had issues with settling in (language - no joke) and the Italian game didn't really suit his style - he really didn't score that many goals for them (9 in the league?). As I recall, Juventus offered him to us. Memory might be deserting me though.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI can't think of any with youngsters that we have sold, but we have sold very few youngsters that have gone on to do very much.
Different circumstances but I was wondering if Ian Rush's return from Juventus was a result of a buyback clause? Only real possible one I can think of
EDIT: I do recall though, that he left us for £3.2m and came back for £2.8m the next season. Huge money in those days.

Can anyone recall us ever having used it before though to bring someone back?

A bit like a sell on fee but a future discount rather than a future premium. Ideal would be negotiating a buyback fee and a sell on fee

Personally, I think it's a no brainer for players at Quansah's level.

Madrid have used them a few times Carvajal, Morata, Casemiro, Chelsea used one to bring back Tammy Abraham, PSG to bring back SimonsOriginally posted by Charly View PostYeah, not the best season last year.
Was a very good one previously.
Needs games. Shame he wont get them here. I reckon he will be a top centre back in a couple.of years.
I wonder how often buy-backs are utilised?
