Why would he? He’s just achieved something truly remarkable with Leverkusen and has a few world class talents in that squad of his.

He’d be mad not to continue his work there.

He's won a couple of league titles with Bayern but this either side of that he's had a rather mediocre coaching career.

What about Deschamps as an alternative candidate? Has he managed at League level at all?

Seemingly we were interested in him back in 2010 so I wonder if we'll have him on the shortlist again?

Yes. Juve, Monaco and Marseille. Don’t want him.

I’ve flipped and flopped re our new manager, but given our current options, if was our principal owner my brief to Michael Edwards would be to go and get Alonso, change his mind and offer whatever it takes. If the repots in the last 48 hours are true, Xabi had all but agreed to join us, and went to discuss it with Rolfes and co and had his mind changed.

Thanks mate. Why don't you rate him?

He had a couple of good cup runs with Monaco and his time with juve was in serie b after their relegation, I could have got them promoted again. Marseilles was more impressive, he did win the league (pre psg money) and did well in the CL, but was only there for a few years and left after a mid table finish. I don’t know, I just don’t think he has a consistent record at club level.

Was thinking the same thing myself. In reality xabi might have an agreement that he can still talk to us but the whole "im staying" thing might have just been a deal between themselves so that they can finish the season without all of the distractions and speculation.

I think if he was really committed then there'd have been a new contract in place - possibly along with release clauses that fluctuate each summer.

Yeah I put that forward as a possibility last week also.

We had the same with Van Dijk when he signed - sometimes what we see and hear in the press is not the same as what is actually going on. And sometimes it is.

Clearly whomever we are looking to appoint is currently in emplyment, it is quite rare in football to know what is coming, for a manager to actually be leavcing rather than be sacked so this is newish territory.

                          I rule nothing out.

Yeah, i'm all in on Alonso as well. Hopefully lightening strikes twice, i.e. edwards refusing us initially also.

Unai Emery has seriously impressed me. I just don't know enough of Amorim at all.

Not playing James in the final was a monumental **** up.
