I think there was a rule change recently that makes it possible for clubs to swap out a player with a long term injury in the league phase. If, as looks likely, Leone is going to be out for some time, then Fede can be brought back in.

I would, but only cos he ran his socks of for 90 mins last night, so expecting him to play from the start on Saturday doesn't seem like a Slot type of move.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him start on the Left on Saturday.

He never really looked fit enough last season but he looks absolutely ready to go now. He seemed to constantly pick up little niggles which held him back but with all the work he did last season and a full preseason he looks great. He was everywhere last night and match that with the effort and desire to make things happen and the quality he has he could be an important player this season.

He look so sharp yesterday, I know it's vs Southampton etc but was great to see. Get him fit and match sharp in the prem and maybe, just maybe we might see some of why alot of clubs wanted him a few years back.

He's the type of player you genuinely want to see do well too, great attitude, works hard, no drama or complaints & always smiling.

Yeah, when Chiesa moved to the left, he made more of an impact in 5 mins than Rio had done for most of the game. If Chiesa keeps improving he’ll be challenging Gakpo for starts and giving Slot another selection headache.

That was my thought watching the highlights.

    THATS the Chiesa i remember.

If he's playing like that then i don't see how they cant be giving him minutes tbh. Rio's a great talent, but he's not at that level yet

Yeah, that's the Chiesa that raised my excitement levels when we first took a punt on him. I even watched his road to recovery film, and I never do that for any player.

He has every potential to becoming another Gravenberch success story. WE might end up regretting not adding him to the CL squad.

Surely a performance like that puts him back on the bench at least, I know it's a different position but the injury to Leoni likely opens up a spot as well

I thought he was excellent - one of the best performers in a pretty abject first half, and lifted again in the second as Liverpool went up a level

He played across the front three and was still running and hammering into challenges at the end of the match. His workrate was a lot better than what I've seen from him before

Trying not to get carried away as it was against a team at the bottom of the Championship, but that was the best performance I've seen from him

Really strong game last night. Proving that he deserves more game time. Hes such a good and confident shooter. Perhaps not yet a PL starter but he should start getting the 55-60 min gig rather than the 80 ish min gig.

That is a valid point, though one could argue that Chiesa has shown that, for us, he is exactly that kind of player as well.
