Maybe that is where Arsenal have a different philosophy - this season they have suffered but they will benefit IMO in the longer term by giving these excellent young players the first team league experience.

Perhaps Liverpool should have a smaller reserve squad with a handful of experienced bench warmers and the best young players ready to push their way into the first team squad.

Is there an argument for scaling down our youth set-up and signing the very best young players from other clubs? Like the Scum did with Rooney and Arsenal to a lesser extent with Walcott.
we never had the money to spend vast amounts on youth.this bull**** that keeps coming out about there arsenal kids youth team is ridiculous,....

Almunia, Hoyte, Toure, Djourou, Traore (Connolly 88), Walcott (Diaby 74), Fabregas, Song Billong, Denilson, Julio Baptista, Aliadiere

Those youngsters cost probably more than most premiership teams!!

I think the reason arsenal have played some youngsters in the premiership is injuries and not having a strong enough squad and look where its got them.
I like LFC4evers idea choose 1 maybe 2 clubs and loan around 6/7 players to them, I would go for crewe and tranmere and look at bolton if the player was good enough for the premiership

What is the maximum number of loan deals allowed by one club a year?

I am sure it is less than 6

However, how else can PL clubs help those clubs deemed to be in trouble, rather than just handing them money (which just doesn't work - look at the prob the OnDigi money created).

This is a simple way to resolve 2 sets of problems, gets our best reserve players playing together as a group, and is prob worth £100,000+ a season to the lower league club, and that club retains its identity.

Of course there will be probs, like if they get promoted and the players have to return to their PL team, but that is where good frugal, management comes in, from the manager & the CEO, ensuring they have the means in place before the carpet is swept from under them.

Something has to change, or young quality brits breaking through will become few & far between even more in the future.

Feeder team in another country, but moving abroad can be a real downer for young lads.
Loans - this is where I think we can benefit, we could loan the best 5/6/7 to one club (league 3 or 4) for one year, this gives our best youngsters/reserves the chance to prove themselves, it would save the smaller club a **** load of money in wages, and puts the players in the shop window should they deemed not quite good enough for us. You can put caveats in place, ie we can not use the same club 2 years running, the club can only play x amount of on-loans per match, they cannot be drawn against each other in cup matches, etc, etc.

There is no doubt we need a better feeder system, maybe a smaller club in the Scottish league perhaps, lock, stock & barrel.
I've suggested much the same about a Scottish team before. I would also like to suggest that the team be Dunfermline as they would be cheapish but seem to have good manager who has helped Hamill progress.

The trouble with loaning players to the lower leagues is that there is a limit to the number you can send. I guess we could do some cunning contract writing in the style that got us Masher. Allowing us to own them but for them to be fully registered at the feeder team for a season. Letting players go in dribs and drabs leaves teh chance that they may have to go to teams that are interested but have a crap coaching staff.

Well how exactly do you plan on giving them a look in then? we got knocked out of the only cup comp we could have played them in, we've played youth at each opportunity rafa felt we could - Carling Cup, the away match to galatasary and the last few prem games.

Young players get expereince in lesser teams because it's not too detrimental to those teams to give a player a go. With us lets say Rafa plays an inexperienced Full back or defender and we concede a match loosing goal because of them, Rafa would be strung up and you know it.

Heighway doesn't have a point at all he's just bitter because Rafa wants to get a bit more involved in the development of the players, and means he's be less involved so he quit. Let's just see what effect Rafa has on the accademy over the next few years and then we'll see if Heighway had a credible point or not (i'm thinking not)

(oh and Anderson hasn't played well for 2 years, he played decent last season, featured in pre-season didn't pull up any trees, had a lot of problems this season and only just started playing again about a month ago. He'll probably take a leaf out of Hammils book and get some experience elsewhere and come back a better player for it)
