    Pre-Match Build Up - Arsenal - 19 Dec 2006

    Liverpool v Arsenal

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez wants to rest players but is also wary of jeopardising the club's chances of reaching the Carling Cup semi-finals.

Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, Luis Garcia, Peter Crouch and Robbie Fowler will all expect to figure.

Arsenal will ring the changes and give their youngsters a chance to shine.

Jeremie Aliadiere will lead the line as Emmanuel Adebayor is set to be rested and Lauren may feature as he steps up his recovery from knee surgery.

Arsenal will be without the injured Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg for the Carling Cup quarter-final with Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Both players have hamstring injuries but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could recall right back Lauren at Anfield after the defender played a practice match last week after being out for 11 months with a knee problem. French centre half William Gallas is also expected to miss the Liverpool match as he continues to recover from a thigh problem.

In their previous two Carling Cup ties at West Bromwich Albion and Everton Wenger has fielded young teams so it remains to be seen if he follows the same pattern at Anfield.

    * Arsenal have never won a League Cup match at Anfield
    * Arsenal have reached the Quarter-Final stage of the League Cup for the fourth consecutive season
    * Arsenal won the only League Cup Final between the sides, 2-1 in 1987, with two goals from Charlie Nicholas
    * Liverpool have won the League Cup a record seven times, in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 2001 and 2003
    * Arsenal have two League Cup wins, against Sheffield Wednesday in 1993 and Liverpool in 1987

Be an interesting game tomorrow, I think we'll field more recognized names and Wenger might focus more on the FA cup rather than this one.

        .
Rather strong squad for the CC. Would have liked to have seen Guthrie have another game, unless he's injured ?

didn't really expect anything less than that squad tbh, maybe Guthrie but that would be it.

that's a pretty weak Arsenal squad, so we need to make sure we aren't embarased

As mentioned elsewhere, the front 4 need to be playing as often as possible, no matter the opposition, in fact, it could be argued, the easier the opposition the more chance they will get to learn off/from each other.

We'll beat Arsenal and then go and win the CC cup. Rafa will write his name in the LFC record books once again. This time for being the 1st LFC manager in the history to win at least 1 trophy in his first 3 season

                Dudek
                Peltier Agger Pauletta Aurelio
                Pennant Guthrie Alonso Garcia
                Fowler Crouch

9 changes and still a pretty decent team to put out

Look at the squads that Shaggy posted. Most of your players aren't even travelling.

And Pauletta because he doesn't play for us, I hang my head in shame

Have to admit I'm suprised about Guthrie. Would have been nice to give him a 30min run out once we have the match tied up.

Alright. I guess it's pretty foggy at the ground. If the match isn't called off, I hope we see a few "long range" specials from Xabi. The goalie won't even see it coming.
