Id say its more about the emergence of United States as the world super power during the 20th century...

        True.

In my case, its more to do with the fact that most countries here (Korea, Japan, China) are export-orientated. And when it comes to dealing with client relationships/projects, everything is handled in English (whether the client comes from the States or not...). It is so annoying...

I work at Debt Capital Markets (or will be soon), and our target market is Korea, and occasionally China. Yet, interviews are conducted in English...pitchbooks are in English...comparative company analysis are in English...database is in English...everything has to be in English...

I have a mate who lives in Amsterdam and he says that Kuyt is very much in the Ian Rush mold of play...he likes to play off defenders shoulders (thats got to be cheating but hey.....who am I to complain) He scores a lot of tap in's and is said in Holland is very lucky with goals with the ball hitting him on the knee and bum etc...sound familiar to Rushie!!
Apparently he is great in the air...I think this is the key to why Rafa wants him....Rafa has mentioned nothing but this for 2 years now that we need to get the ball in the box and create more possibilities!

This is what Kuyt does well:

He scores goals; he drops deeper and then brings others into play; he holds the ball up well; he's strong; he's very good in the air; he works hard defensively. Oh and did I say he scores goals?

I'd agree with those 'pros' about Kuyt based on what little I've seen of him (I'd add he's a bit 'shoot on sight' and scores from all sorts of angles) but there are also cons.

He's rather slow, his first touch isn't the best and he isn't particularly mobile.

I haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to evaluate him properly, but those are my impressions. If Rafa thinks he'll do a good job for us, that's good enough for me. He usually gets it right.
