    Would things be better if

Rafa had taken Owen back, instead of letting him go to Newcastle?

What with our lack of a prolific goalscorer/finisher and the amount of chances we create, i mean...

    Thoughts?

(I'd like to think i'll get more than just a 'no' or a 'yes', eg reasons behind it, but i know some smartarse will give one of those two as a one word answer.... ...and before anyone tries it, that covers 'maybe' 'perhaps' 'possibly' and all other variants )

If it meant we still had Kuyt, and if Owen was fit then yes. We'd be considerably better with a finisher of his quality in our team.

Owen from 2001-2 is what we need, when he would score from one chance, not the Owen of today

No, seeing as he'd have scored 7 goals last season and spent the rest of the 2 years holding the physio's hand

The Owen of 2001-2 would be a yes, he had that extra pace similar to what we see in Bellamy now but i think on his return to the premiership he had lost that pace, factor in that injury that has kept him out for a year and i dont believe we will same the old MO ever again, so being blessed with that hindsight i would say no........but i was praying for it at that time.

Who's to say he'd have got that injury if we'd signed him?

Owen used to bag goals when we created just a handfull of chances, we're creating loads these days and can't finnish.

Yesterday Bellamy put a great ball into the box from the byline, would of expected Owen to have taken up the correct position, likewise a Fowler of past years.

Owen is a natural goal scorer, his spell in Madrid proved that.

Owen would have been awesome in this team (IF he was injury free). Call him what you like but he scored goals, and that is our problem isn't it?

Anyone who says otherwise is taking out of their arse.

Not while he's injured obviously, but a fit Michael Owen would have made a big difference to us this season, yes definitely.

IF we are all of a sudden creating a belly full of chances, then surely it makes sense to give Fowler a shot?

Yadda, yadda, yadda, living in the past etc etc, but he is OUR player and he does know where the goal is, and he hasn't had a look in since scoring two in Turkey.

That's nonsensical. You may as well ask whether he'd have scored any goals if we'd signed him.

If you're going to argue over hypothetical issues (which seems rather a waste of time to me) what is the point in allowing only convenient facts to shape the argument?

Thats true. But then, who is to say he he he wouldnt have been ran over by and Evertonian while walking outside baby blue in the Albert Dock?

I think Owen is massively over-rated.

His seasons basically following a simple pattern

                              Phase One - Purple patch
Phase Two - Drought (maybe lasting up to 6/7 games)
Phase Three - injury (usually reasonably long term)

                              Repeat infinitum

Aside from that i will never forgive him for walking out on us like he did. Was it less than a week before his Real transfer that he declared he was signing a new contract with liverpool? There was no need for that.

After this latest injury I really can't see him getting back to anywhere near his best. I predict a frustrating and difficult next season or two for him at Newcastle (with maybe a little more phase two than phase one) followed by maybe a move to somewhere **** like Bolton. He will then get injured again and probably be retired at 30.......

That's my bleak forecast of the Owen future

The short answer is no I don't think we would have been better off with Owen
