Fun fact - Christian Benteke is still Crystal Palaces record signing......9 years after signing him!!!
So although he was a disaster for us on the pitch, I think we got something like 30m back for him - which enabled us to sign Mane for similar money.

I remember saying at the time that Brendan should have been sacked for pushing for Benteke. He rocked up from Swansea with his PowerPoint presentation on how we were going to play.....it was all tippy tappy inspired by Barca. He even got the Welsh xavi to help him achieve it. We started Brendan's first season with carroll discarded because he didn't suit our style of play and only Borini brought in. For him then to push for Benteke a couple of years later was proof that he had lost the plot imoComment
