Other sporting moments you may have missed

Everton's winning goal against Liverpool was not the first time TV errors have prevented fans from seeing major sporting moments

By the time ITV's aberrational cut to adverts during last night's FA Cup tie between Everton and Liverpool had been rectified, Dan Gosling was already wheeling away in celebration having scored an 118th-minute winner. But this is only the latest example to join a long tradition of television sporting interruptions.

    Klose scores against Turkey
The live broadcast of Euro 2008's Germany v Turkey semi-final was downed for 17 minutes by a freak storm in Vienna. By the time spectators across the globe rejoined the action, Germany had taken the lead, Miroslav Klose heading home past the keeper in the 79th minute.

    Khan beats Limond
In the sixth round of Amir Khan's 2007 fight against Willie Limond, the Bolton boy had been knocked to the ground. Khan's fightback had just begun when ITV cut to an advert break – and missed Limond's bloody retirement after the eighth round.

    Gooch's 300
The BBC know how to treat a sports story, and Graham Gooch's triple century against India was one of the biggest of 1990. At the very moment he reached three figures, they had left their live coverage to show viewers the runners and riders for the 4.05 at Ascot.

    Seve's scorcher
One of the many arcane traditions of the US Masters has been the Augusta National committee's reluctance to allow TV cameras on the front nine holes. In 1983, the result was pretty much decided when Seve Ballesteros started his final round with birdie, eagle, par, birdie – but the cameras were showing also-rans returning to the clubhouse.

    Schumacher battles to overtake Alonso
ITV have missed many important formula one moments, most infamously cutting to adverts with three laps to go of the 2005 San Marino grand prix. The culmination of an enthralling race, Michael Schumacher was attempting to overtake Fernando Alonso when the directors at ITV Sport thought it necessary to give the watching public a break from the action. Spectators were left enraged, Jim Rosenthal red-faced.

    Super Bowl XLIII
When the TV viewers in the Tuscon area of Arizona tuned in to the closing stages of Super Bowl XLIII they may have been surprised by the eventual climax on show. With three minutes left on the clock, the pictures from Tampa disappeared to be replaced by a naked couple performing a "graphic sex act". The 30-second moment of madness was a result of a cable feed mix-up with the apogee of the NHL season somehow displaced by Jenna Jameson's adult cable TV channel Club Jenna.
