I think the thing that might save him is that everyone else who has been tried as captain has been distinctly uninspired. If he can get back to fitness and form I think he will come back, looks like a big if though.

Yeah bat-wise he's replaceable, but he's got a fantastic cricketing brain and he's clearly the best captain we have. I say, regardless of what happens with his injury, he should be kept on in some capacity in the England set-up. He's the best captain we've had for a long time.

I agree, it would be good to see Vaughan incorporated into the coaching/selecting team even if he were to not be able to play again.

What surprises me in cricket is the resistance to people getting tips from the coach. The recent substitute fielder debate has raised all sorts of wierd opinions from long standing cricket fans. It was really interesting to listen to TMS over the weekend and see how veciferous peoples opinions about the length of breaks were. It's not even as though they interfere with the flow of the game.

Also, I think that the ICC should consider allowing captains to have a mic to communicate with the dressing room. I don't see what problem it would cause. It might even allow someone like Vaughn to keep a big influence on the team while injured.

Tresco needs a good innings. Looking good.

*******! Pietersen and Kaneria were embroiled in a right battle...verbals galore, and Pietersen starts by hitting him all over the place. The Kaneria clean bowls him (for 16) out of nowhere with a googly.

Kaneria then proceeded to ape Shoaib Akhtar's "chicken" celebration from last winter.

                    Strauss ton up. 218-3.

Strauss out. Not looking good for a conclusive England victory, could be an exciting last day though.

Read's batting nicely....could be a handy partnership, these two.

They have done a really good job - I'm sure that will come back to haunt me.

Right - I'm not saying anything for the rest of the test.
