Another plus one for Kyrgios. He's a throwback and adds a LOT of entertainment to a rather prosaic bunch otherwise.

BillobShaisley 05-07-19 03:38 PM

He's brought multiple plus ones, that's my boy!

Like that uncle who arrives at the wedding with a hooker on his arm.

Buzzo 05-07-19 03:50 PM

That game deserved to be into the second week. And the only reason it isnt is because Kyrgios doesn't take it seriously. A guy with his talent playing without a seeding is ridiculous.

I think he can have it all with a bit of discipline training wise.

...but who will coach him...?

He could have the lifestyle where he can play basketball and go to the pub, he just needs to trade a bit of it for practice. Maybe he needs (as we all do at times) the love and common sense of a good woman/partner*.

*PC as fuck caveat.

Buzzo 05-07-19 08:28 PM

Coco Gauff wins through to week 2. Amazing composure from her even saving match point in the second set.

Absolute powderpuff match though with some of the tamest rally’s going on just endless meek backhand slice from both ends.

3 unforced errors in a row from Aussie born Jo Konta bring first set back on serve

Buzzo 09-07-19 04:29 PM

She seems to have a bit more bottle... but still looks incredibly nervous on big points. Needs to get to the semis at least here to consider her tournament a success.

Buzzo 09-07-19 04:32 PM

14 unforced errors in opening 8 games is abysmal.

Norbs 09-07-19 04:36 PM

Most of them were marginal errors on her forehand, Strycova has exploited an obvious weakness well

Norbs 09-07-19 04:37 PM

Strycova's serving has hit a very good groove too now whereas Konta is dropping points on hers.

Norbs 09-07-19 04:39 PM

Konta's 1st serve in ratio must be well below 40% too

Buzzo 09-07-19 04:41 PM

Konta hitting a bit more of a groove on her serve now.

Buzzo 09-07-19 04:55 PM

Konta absolutely threw that away.

Under pressure now.

Buzzo 09-07-19 05:07 PM

Konta looks beaten.

0-3 with one break second set.

Buzzo 09-07-19 05:24 PM

1-5

She’s just not playing well.

Buzzo 09-07-19 05:28 PM

6-7 1-6

That was an uncomfortable watch.

Just shite from Konta really. Every aspect of her game fell away.

Norbs 09-07-19 06:49 PM

Fucking hell, that post match interviewer was a disgrace. Good on her to come back fighting

Buzzo 09-07-19 07:11 PM

Serena Williams is just a phenomena.

Man she was so good today. Incredible returning.

Love watching these two, though I suspect they'll lose in the next round.

Murray looked way off it today, but Serena was so good it didn't matter.

She’s just an incredible tennis player.

It’s quite similar dynamic wise to the Murray/Lopez pairing. Andy looking ok/solid enough but his partner on a real singles hot streak that is clearly carrying through to the doubles.

Top seeds up next, so tough, but I wouldn’t rule them out.

Buzzo 09-07-19 08:57 PM

Brilliant article by Serena, explaining ‘that’ final.

Embarrassing on her part I thought.

:haha: She’s just a shit Nick Kyrgios.

She has to admit she didn’t play well. There’s no shame in that. It happens. She needs to learn how to be the favourite, because she should have won today.

labourRed 10-07-19 12:53 PM

Re: Konta, i think its just latent patriarchy. The condescension in the way question was asked is there for all to hear, "the numbers are IBMs".

She does seem to have an issue dealing with lesser players, or maybe its just coincidence.

The interview does seem to have split opinion though.

Kenneth 10-07-19 01:47 PM

Grey doesn't seem to exist anymore. I'd say they were both being unprofessional. "presumably you want to win a grand slam" is indeed condescending, but refusing to address a reasonable point and getting the hump isn't good enough either.

But if the people involved in any spat are of different genders, social class or race, then it's all aboard the identity politics train to offendedville

I thought he was rude, he lead with that and wasn't interested other than having a dig. Thought she stood up for herself well :D

Kenneth 10-07-19 01:51 PM

Well, if she's got nothing more to say other than that she is a professional trying her best, there's no need for any more interviews really. She could have made her reasonable point and also answered the question rather than doing a trump. The interviewer really does need to take a lesson from the reaction though.

It was a provocative question, and given her history a low blow.

What would help Konta is a level of belief, belief in her ability because she is good. And therefor admitting it wasnt her best day is not the end of the world.

She needs to develop a bit of spine.

1 set all, 1 game all. Djokovic v Bautista Agut

Buzzo 12-07-19 04:12 PM

Novak through in 4.

Buzzo 12-07-19 06:25 PM

Some immense tennis from Rog and Raf.

Leyton388 12-07-19 07:38 PM

37 and Federer is still an absolute beast.

Buzzo 13-07-19 04:10 PM

Halep destroyed Serena 6-2 6-2. Bit of an upset.

Its ok bro, you'll get over it

Buzzo 14-07-19 09:26 PM

2 championship points on his own serve. Wonder how many times Roger will replay those in his head tonight?

Amazing from Novak really. He is some competitor. Keeps coming back like the terminator.

I wonder if we will ever see Roger in another Wimbledon final?

In saying that. At 37, he just put in 5 hours on court at the end of two weeks on court and only just lost. He must have the most phenomenal genetics ever?

Shaggy 12-08-19 09:46 PM

Beaten in straight sets by Gasquet. No surprise.

Buzzo 12-08-19 11:04 PM

:handshake:

Didn’t realise that was tonight.

6-4 6-4 isn’t too bad. Rhythm will take ages.

Buzzo 12-08-19 11:17 PM

He’s just said he won’t play the US Open. Sensible again. Too early for best of 5.
