Falls short of your high standard :chin:

Missed a few chances but thought he was excellent. Movement was so refreshing, causing chaos and so close to scoring tonight and his last few cameos.

Buzzo 10-03-21 11:11 PM

Yeah the run he made in the build up to Salah’s goal is not a run Bobby would make.

And every English team in the professional and semi professional leagues know this.

Jota makes it impossible to have a team plan, he's just popping up everywhere and has really scary accuracy (usually) with his shots. Oppos can't just 'let him have the ball' outside the box as you can with Bobby.

danperkins 10-03-21 11:17 PM

Bobby out may be a blessing as he's been so poor for so long. Jota is a live wire, with the 3 lads you have pace and movement everywhere and especially against low block sides as it pulls them out of position as we are less predictable. Only a matter of time before they all start kicking in again.

Buzzo 10-03-21 11:21 PM

And then having the option of Bobby from the bench when he is fit will make us much stronger.

His goal last night was typical Jota. He hit the ball early, hard and on target. Keeper made a meal of it and probably should have saved it, but because he hit it first time it took him by surprise. This is a massive plus point for jota. Rather than faffing about he is able to get shots away quickly. He offers something different to the regular 3. If he hadn't fucked his knee we would have been comfortably top 4.

Corndog 16-03-21 08:40 AM

Very true, he shoots on sight and has a powerful strike. Refreshing to see how he uses both his feet so well, much less predictable in this regard than someone like Salah who is also looking to shape it onto his left and curl into the far corner.

He had an effort saved by Patricio towards the end where he took a pass on his left rolled it out beautifully and lashed it with his right.

It sounds stupid to say as you'd expect all professionals to be very good with both feet but it seems more of rarity in todays game vs clips I've seen of bygone eras.

Most of them seem competent with their weaker foot but unwillingly to use it unless absolutely necessary.

Norbs 16-03-21 09:16 AM

Took a deflection didn't it? Keeper probably had it covered otherwise

Not that I care :D

Kenneth 16-03-21 10:13 AM

Don’t think it was deflected.

Scratch 16-03-21 10:15 AM

Not sure I saw a deflection in there...Henry reckons he mis-kicked it and wasn't aiming to cut across the ball, but I guess only Jota knows that.

frank the tank 16-03-21 11:14 AM

He works his nuts off as well which is great. When you have hard working guys like Jota, Mane, Bobby and Mo - then even when they are not in form like Mane and Bobby for large parts of this season, they still offer something.

That is why there is a big drop off when Divock plays - he just doesn't work as hard as the others.

I am hopeful that we can go on a bit of a run now and make the CL next year....... will be less pressure for the team when we are in the final if we are already qualified for next seasons competition too!!!

danperkins 16-03-21 01:20 PM

He's a live wire, still no where near his best match sharpness and he has been dangerous in every single game since he has come back. He was quiet last night but still done the business. Relentless work rate and constantly going forward and asking questions. Brilliant player.

...the only way Divock runs around and works hard like the others is the day we get mirrored advertising boards around the ground...

Jaco_Pastorious 16-03-21 02:54 PM

What I love about Jota is the fact he can hit the ball with pace and accuracy with hardly any backlift. That so aids him in being able to have a shot inbound before a keeper or defender has time to anticipate it.

SB 16-03-21 10:24 PM

Yeah there was one shot he had there yesterday with his right boot, he didn’t hit this one first time but shuffled to get room but the power he generated was incredible I thought.

frank the tank 17-03-21 10:40 AM

Brilliant example of epic scouting again by LFC.

It was and it again highlighted the stats Edwards and co use to make a short list of attacking players.

Do find it interesting how all our attacking buys under Edwards have certain stats in common and have very similar % for their direct running stats, chance creation stats, chance attempted stats, and their combined open play XG/XA per game stat and their open play goals per game vs XG stat.

All of Mane, Salah and Jota pretty much matched the other in those pre Liverpool, and all three had a goal return that was the same as or less than their XG stats, so all had stats that showed they were scoring high in the individual attacking stats that suggested a better team their final product stat (the XG stat) would increase when surrounded by better players.

The stats are weighted depending on the quality of opposition/league and also for things like CL/EL games and international games.

Of course the eye test would have to be passed as well by all those players as well as evaluating personalities/character.

Very baseball like at times in how it is done, and quite interesting to read old and not so old interviews given by Edwards and others in our set up when they talk about it in a little but not too much detail.

Interestingly some of the players being mentioned in relation to being linked with us in recent times actually have very similar stat results to Salah, Mane and Jota pre Liverpool.

Neto, Martinez, and Isak to name three that seem to tick a lot of the same boxes based on the numbers and no doubt our scouts have access to far more detailed stats that was we schmucks can find online.

Guys like Haaland and Mbappe are off the charts statwise and are the obvious names for any big club to look at, but our scouting seems to go for the guys whose underlying stats score high in certain areas with a decent but potentially underperforming (compared to the other attacking stats that is) open play goals vs XG stat.

I'd really like us to sign Neto in the summer. Wolves are the new Southampton

Dybala will be available this summer, he's 28 though

Wout Weghorst or André Silva should be looked at in summer. Both within our price range

Weghorst is a big target man right? I’d also add Jovic to that list

They won’t be looked at Kev. Both too old for our transfer policy and neither fit our style of play. Klopp’s LFC don’t do big target men strikers.

Both are upgrades on Origi if he moves on, we need options for when plan A fails.

Wouldn't want LFC going anywhere near Weghorst.

Just not technically good enough and quite slow.

He's a good finisher but just can't see him fitting in.

vlahka 22-03-21 06:06 AM

I dont know how happy I'd be having a player called Weghorst. It doesnt sound like a name destined for statues. Sometimes you can tell plenty from a name. Like how you know all players named Fred are garbage.
