Liverpool have agreed a club-record deal to sign Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, with the player officially joining on 1 July 2018.

The Reds have agreed to pay the 48m release clause that will allow him to move next summer, plus an undisclosed premium.

The 22-year-old had been one of Jurgen Klopp's primary targets this summer, but Leipzig had refused to sell.

The deal will surpass the 35m they paid Newcastle to sign Andy Carroll.

Great deal. RBL wanted him for another year, but we never gave up - Great to secure this signing and will certainly shut up the anti-FSG mob - paying a premium on top!

Fantastic. Gutted we've got to wait a season but we've got the guy we really wanted

fidget 28-08-17 03:07 PM

Fantastic

Buzzo 28-08-17 03:07 PM

It must be incredibly hard for the player to have made this dream signing but know he has to return to his old club for the next 10 months.

That said, kudos to FSG for brokering this compromise deal for a player Klopp clearly wants.

SKY Sports News have not even got a whisper of this on TV yet.

Maxiedge 28-08-17 03:08 PM

I really didn't think I'd see this thread title this year!

Quite amazing too that Keita is signing for us without any assurance at all of CL football next season. That's the pull of Jurgen.

Robbie-9-Fowler 28-08-17 03:09 PM

Doesn't sign until July 2018 mind, but fuck me, I'll take that, at the very least it means we won't lose out next year.

rudedog 28-08-17 03:09 PM

Didn't we have a similar deal with Auxerre when we signed Cisse?

Norbs 28-08-17 03:09 PM

He'll well regret it if we fail to qualify for the CL by the end of this season

In football there is no guarantee of a manager being here in 12 months time really is there? Its hard to get fully excited but RBL clearly wouldn't sell this summer and we've found a compromise!

Phoenix07 28-08-17 03:11 PM

Keita will know Klopp is planning to build the midfield around him. He's exactly the type of midfielder we need, to quicken the transition of attacks from our defence.

I expect Coutinho to be sold next summer anyway, so this will be a glorious arrival to cover that.

fidget 28-08-17 03:11 PM

Anyone else think he'll be here in January if they go out of CL?

The best thing that has happened to the club in many many long years was securing Klopp.

I have absolute faith in him, win lose or draw. He is exactly the manager we need. Humble, funny, no bullshit, tough... plus about the only manager who looks like he'd be a decent laugh to go for a pint with.

I think we already play the best attacking football in the League, it beggars belief to imagine what we might be like by next year.

Liverpool 28-08-17 03:11 PM

shame that their group is piss easy, I think if they had nothing to play for by christmas, he could rock up here

Fivex 28-08-17 03:12 PM

If the wheels fall off their season, it wouldn't surprise me to see him join early in the Jan window.

Daffy Duck 28-08-17 03:13 PM

Risky as fuck, but even more exciting!! Props to FSG, sort out the defence and Coutinho will see the future is at LFC :)

Liverpool 28-08-17 03:14 PM

Baby Keith

Shame he isn't coming in for another year but still, getting him for 48m rather than 70m seems like good business

danperkins 28-08-17 03:39 PM

Great signing, gutted he won't be playing for us until next season.

Abro100 28-08-17 03:45 PM

WTF is going on here. I nipped out to buy a Diamond tipped drill bit. So have we signed Keita and Lemar and Sanchez?

Shaggy 28-08-17 03:46 PM

Drink it in

Robbie-9-Fowler 28-08-17 03:48 PM

Still only 22 as well, if we get Lemar and a CB (VVD) then what a summer this has turned out to be. If we keep Coutinho and manage to reintegrate him too, then we have every chance at being successful.

Liverpool 28-08-17 03:48 PM

its mad hes agreed to this, how does he benefit? Us not signing someone else?

He could have the pick of the European elite next summer, and he's chosen to tie himself to us when there are about a dozen better clubs than us

Bender 28-08-17 03:49 PM

Fwiw i don't think couthino will stay .....imo these are replacements then he'll be sold....he's burned his bridges imo...but let's see

I think legit early interest counts for a lot. Klopp apparently chased him last summer too and when a player knows a manager has that much confidence in him it it means a lot. I'm absolutely buzzing :haha::haha::haha::rock:
