Philippe Coutinho Post-LFC

Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his team-mates this was a move he was desperate to make happen. Despite that, we managed to keep the player here beyond the summer window, hoping that we would be able to persuade him to stay and be part of what we are looking to do.

I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of Liverpool was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 per cent certain his future - and that of his family - belongs at Barcelona.

It is his dream and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind. Philippe has made a fantastic contribution to this club over his five years of service and as disappointed as we are that he doesn't want to extend that, the relationship we have for him means, with a heavy heart, we wish him well

Ok, lets do the new thread thing...

Laters cunt.

Alex 07-01-18 05:43 PM

Nice to see the club treating a player like a human rather than a contracted bit of meat. Good statement from the boss. Let's hope he achieved what he thinks he needs.

danperkins 07-01-18 05:47 PM

Cuntinho :D

Buzzo 07-01-18 05:51 PM

Bought for £8.5m Jan 2013; Sold for £140m Jan 2018.

Fair to say we’ve turned him into a bit of a player.

Not too bothered about him leaving to be honest. We are not a one man team nowadays and results when he was not playing did not seem to be any worse

Ok, so leaving us in the middle of the season is very disappointing, however we did also sign him in the middle of a season and we clearly kept him at the club against his will in lieu of Barca actually making us an acceptable offer for him for 6 months. Obviously he had personal reasons as well as professional ones for wanting to move to Spain, and if we do want to get really good South American players at the club this is going to happen eventually with some of them, as we saw with Suarez.

All the "rat" & "cunt" stuff to me is a bit unnecessary, I'm not saying we should be happy for him but meh, he didn't down tools this season and we got a huge fee for him, we'll be fine without him.

Roboklopp 07-01-18 06:50 PM

He did down tools tho from what it seems?

:rash:

baitman 07-01-18 06:55 PM

as the first of the fab four to leave does this make him john lennon now?

baitman 07-01-18 06:59 PM

from bbc, so dont know if these biased cunts have it right.

Liverpool with and without Coutinho in 2017-18 prem games.

Liverpool have picked up more points per game without Coutinho this season than with him

without ..... with
13 Games 9
6 Wins 6
6 Draws 2
1 Losses 1
46.20 Win % 66.70
1.8 Points per game 2.2

Well he was on for pretty much his best ever return for us in goals/assists, so clearly he was trying when he was on the pitch. Which probably was because he knew he was getting his move, if a few months after he wanted.

Such a shame, always a sense of what could have been with him this season. Alas we will never know.

foresterbloke 07-01-18 11:46 PM

Can't wait until VVD lands one on him Agger style.

labourRed 07-01-18 11:56 PM

I'm not bitter at Phil, clearly a dream of his. He did well for us and gave us some cracking moments. But can't believe we have been willing to gamble the season away (as it stands).

Liverpool 07-01-18 11:56 PM

gutted about him going, struggling to place it among others who have left. He'll have my blessing once this season is out and it ends alright for us :haha:

baitman 08-01-18 12:05 AM

six more months and we would have kissed him goodbye and he'd still of had his dream move.

its a shame he showed his this selfish side, not a toss given about his so called team mated or the fans

Snigger 08-01-18 12:21 AM

A lot can change in 6 months - you see an opportunity to realise a dream you go for it, at least most people do

topscorer 08-01-18 12:46 AM

He played for us for 5 years and won nothing.

In May be will probably have at least one medal with Barcelona after 5 months.

Can't really blame him for not wanting to wait until the summer to be honest.

Nicey 08-01-18 04:18 AM

Good Luck to him ... he's Brazilain and Barca want him in their first 11 ... thats hard to say no to, shame it could not happen at the end of the season but hey ho the world continues to turn. I am not going to start hating a player who only ever gave everything for the shirt. YNWA

The faking injury thing leaves a sour taste but this might have been a club led thing.

Good luck to the lad, he deserves the opportunity.

I hope he's shit though!

Yeah and Barca can go fuck themselves ..

Can you start to imagine how much Saints fans must hate us :D

Rigadon 08-01-18 07:55 AM

We shop at Southampton. Barcelona shop at Liverpool.

Irishnev 08-01-18 08:16 AM

I hunk he will absolutely smash it at Barca, these 6 months were he has most likely been minding himself have yielded a goal or assist every game. At Barca with better players and fully committed I reckon he’ll go on and fulfill his potential - 20g + 20a a year for me at a minimum for him going forward.

Hate how it ended but as many have said a lot can happen in 6 months, he dug in and the club wilted. The most annoying thing is that we seem to be prepared to gamble on Lallana who has has one good 3 month spell in his time here and that was only 60% of what Coutinho did from a numbers perspective.

I trust Klopp but this is a massive gamble to our chances this season.

Nicey 08-01-18 08:51 AM

Klopp has lost big players before and just got stronger ... usually another player emerges ... I think that player is Lallana .. I honestly think if he can stay injury free he could be knocking on the door of world-class ... his movement off the ball is the best I have ever seen, impossible to mark when he is on it and running games

Phoenix07 08-01-18 09:11 AM

He's got the troll smile about him.

Aye, and playing time it's only four and a half months left with us

I like Lallana but he has had genuinely only a three month spell (start of last season) in his Liverpool career to suggest that he can get remotely close to Phil's level. If we are expecting him to replace Phil's output then we'll struggle, he is also coming back from a long injury lay off so no guarantee he will get back to that level.

Personally I don't think we replace him like for like but say we bought a top GK (Alisson) CB (VVD), midfielder (Baby K) and forward (Lemar) with the money then we will have strengthened the team overall IMO.

What? No he didn't, we bought Coutino in 2013! Rafa to my knowledge havn't managed here for 8 years now :)

Mad bad.....clouded memory :sigh: It was Rafa who gave him his chance at Inter many moons a go

McDermotX 08-01-18 10:32 AM

Think it was Comolli who had mentioned that Rafa had tipped him as a purchase (wittingly or unwittingly.....I dunno)

Quote:

"In the spring of 2012, the owners told me that we had a limited spending budget per player of €10 million and we could only sign players who were under 21," Comolli said in an interview with ESPN.

"I said to the scout: 'Coutinho becomes our priority' because we were looking for a wide player to replace Dirk Kuyt. He [Coutinho] was not available because they transferred him to Espanyol [on loan] later on.

"We didn't even know he was that good - it was difficult to watch him play because he was never playing at Inter. We knew about him, we knew he was good, but it was only when Rafa said he's going to be world-class. When somebody like Rafa says a thing about a player like this, you listen.

"The head of recruitment said he was the best we could get. But I was sacked, then Kenny [Dalglish] was sacked."

labourRed 08-01-18 10:48 AM

Coutinho always looked world class, i think at the time Inter needed a bit of money and Coutinho wasn't playing. I remember being absolutely delighted when we signed him - it felt like a real coup. I think the only debate at the time over those signings was Sturridge a bit one-footed or not - even he turned out alright before he turned to glass. :haha:

Incredibly harsh.

I'm gutted he's gone but it's a massive fee and it's not like he left us for another Premier League club.

Plus - he's only done exactly the same thing that Van Dijk did so we can't be too critical of him.

Classic Rafa.....always involved in some of the best moments of the club since the mid 00s even though he's long gone.

Who can forget the marvellous Jovanovic - it's like Rafa knew Bodgson was taking over.
