Shaggy 22-07-12 06:25 PM

So cruel.

RichC 22-07-12 06:27 PM

:handshake:

has to look back at Rory last year where he blew the Masters to bounce back to win the US open.

CJ 22-07-12 06:27 PM

Happy for Ernie. Bad for Scott.

As bad as Norman at Augusta?

RichC 22-07-12 06:32 PM

I didn't think so either

Not quite a van de Velde moment but one of the worst collapses I've seen in a major

The other day he said to his co-commentator about Masters champion Bubba Watson "Have you seen much of this fellow?"

He's an arrogant, senile old duffer these days. Like the BBC football pundits he seems to think research is beneath him....a pure golf snob.

:jaw:

I thought it was Golf law that you had to like Peter Alliss :haha:

You make a good point though.

The BBC commentary team were awful and downright disrespectful in some instances.

Shaggy 23-07-12 08:53 AM

:D I used to like him - used to think he was brilliant in fact. Become a parody of himself in recent years though.

Pablo 23-07-12 08:57 AM

Agreed on Peter Alliss, posh arrogant snob.

Missed Scott's collapse yesterday. I was round my mum and dad's. When Scott holed that putt for birdie on the 14th we all went out in the garden as it seemed to be over.

I came back in just as Scott holed his putt on the 18th. I thought he looked a little underwhelmed. It took me a few seconds before I realised he'd blown it. :jaw::haha:

I thought Ernie was very gracious in victory by the way.

PTP 23-07-12 10:20 AM

unbelievable day - gutted for Scott - will be a big test to bounce back from there.

great for ernie - unbelievable record in the british open

I went on the saturday, great day - some fantastic golf going on.

Shaggy 23-07-12 12:40 PM

Just found out Scott until recently was dating Ana Ivanovic. I don't feel sorry for him anymore.

Pablo 23-07-12 12:51 PM

Thought everyone knew that. How did that one pass you by?

Shaggy 23-07-12 12:55 PM

Dunno. I don't read gossip columns :D

Pablo 23-07-12 12:55 PM

She's had a good go of his long putter the lucky bastard :shake:

PTP 12-08-12 11:34 PM

i doubt it.

Chazza 13-08-12 11:53 AM

Is the Olympic golf going to be a matchplay or just a straight 72 holes best score wins?

Neil Young 13-08-12 12:00 PM

Whichever it is, it's going to be shit.

Chazza 13-08-12 12:01 PM

Why?

RichC 13-08-12 12:03 PM

matchplay would surely be the best way for it to be played.

Reece 13-08-12 12:04 PM

From earlier in the year

Quote:

RORY McILROY has been urged to do his bit for Ireland and play for Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

This tongue-in-cheek suggestion was made by Padraig Harrington in a TV interview with recently retired European Tour player Gary Murphy.

McIlroy and fellow Major-winning Ulstermen Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke can represent Ireland or Britain when golf returns to the Olympics in four years' time.

Back in 2009, as golf's bid to rejoin the Olympic family gathered momentum, McIlroy said he was excited about the prospect of being on the same team at the Games as Britain's diving star Tom Daley.

Yet, he sat firmly on the fence when the subject came up again at last year's US PGA Championship.

"Basically, if I'm going to be very honest, which I usually am, whatever I say is going to upset someone," said the world No 2 at the time, adding: "So I may as well just say 'I don't know' and wait until four or five years' time, whenever I have to make a decision."

Commenting on recent media speculation on this matter, Harrington said: "I'm fascinated with all this conversation about who we declare for. If Rory and Graeme opt for Britain, it means we get two more Irish guys into the Games -- as in myself and Darren Clarke get to play.

"The way the system works, if you're in the top 15 in the world, you can have more than two from one country," added Dublin's three-time Major winner.

"So if someone wants Rory to be as Irish as he can be, he'd better declare for GB and we get two more guys in. When it comes down to it, it'll be a complete no-brainer because nobody is losing out and you're actually just gaining a couple more spots for Irish golfers."
