Also, reminder: Toronto FC are the worst team in MLS by a long way. Even with this line up, we should walk this.

So lots of players got a run out in our 1st friendly & 2 players who have shown loads of promise combine to score our only goal. Stirlings run & ball to morgan was sublime & Suso was very impressive also. I didn't see the 1st half but heard Pacheco did pretty well.

We had 70% of possession & a pass success rate of 92% which suggests that Brendan will be happy.

All in all, not a bad hit out for mainly a reserve side front line.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken about his first game as Liverpool manager, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Toronto. The boss shared his thoughts on goalscorer Adam Morgan, Raheem Sterling, and the support in Toronto.

Adam Morgan poached a goal for the Reds after a fine bit of work from Raheem Sterling to bring Liverpool level, and the youngster wheeled off in an emotional celebration. Rodgers reserved his praise for the natural goalscorer.

He’s a really, really good kid. He’s come in, he’s taken everything on board that I’ve talked about. He’s technically good, he’s got a natural eye for a goal – if he doesn’t arrive at that moment, the goal doesn’t go in because the defender would have got to the line to defend it.
He’s got that natural instinct to score but I was also pleased with the cleverness in his pressing. He pressed the ball really well. That forced them into some mistakes.
It was a great moment for him. His father flew in this morning from Liverpool, so to get here and to see the goal would have been a special moment.”

Adam Morgan didn’t hold back in his celebration as it was his first senior goal for Liverpool.

Although Brendan Rodgers admitted Tiki-Taka would take time, the gaffer was pleased to see some of the training ground work pay off in a 90 minute game.

We’ve still got a long way to go. It’s very important that we dictate games, we control games, we dominate games. You saw for large parts of the game, we forced Toronto back. It’s just that penetration that will get better as time goes on, because possession is no good on its own. Some of the movement patterns were very good and it’ll get better.

Raheem Sterling was the creator of Morgan’s goal, using an intelligent touch and a burst of pace to get his shot away, which Morgan then smashed into an open net. The boss was quick to acknowledge this.

I thought he did very well, Raheem is very persistent. He doesn’t get knocked over easily, he shows great courage and bravery on the ball. His strength for the goal was impressive – that was the thing that surprised me for such a slight guy. He was in a good position to intercept. He then went on the outside of the defender, worked his space and got his shot across goal, and obviously young Morgs tapped it in.

Although first team defender Martin Skrtel was in action, fans were puzzled as to why Daniel Agger was not available for selection. Brendan cleared this up.

He’s just joined the group on Monday and had his first training session on Tuesday. It was just too early for him because he’s had four weeks off. I didn’t want to put him in that situation because others had been back for a couple of weeks. Daniel will have some involvement against Roma on Wednesday.

More then 30,000 fans turned out to support both teams which is quite a haul of supporters even for a premier league game and the boss revealed he was touched, and thanked the fans.

I thought it was phenomenal. You travel this far away from Liverpool but it’s been like home. I’d like to say on record, a massive thank-you to them because that’s why we do it – for the supporters, for the badge, the pride, the club.

Fans were delighted to see Lucas Leiva return back from injury and get some minutes on the pitch. Charlie Adam, who has recovered from an injury he suffered towards the end of the last campaign, also featured for Liverpool. Youngsters such as Suso, Sama, Adorjan, and Jordon Ibe also got the chance to shine. Three players who returned from loan also got 45 minutes under their belt: Dani Pacheco, Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani. Pacheco looked impressive on the flank in the first half.

With such players as skipper Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and new signing Fabio Borini returning on Monday Brendan Rodgers is sure to switch things up for the game against Roma on Wednesday night. Andy Carroll will also join up with the squad despite speculation over his future.
