    Penaltygate ...

tomorrow's papers will be full of this.

gerrard has given the press plenty of ammo here.

Mario Balotelli showed disrespect to Henderson - Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard accused Mario Balotelli of showing "disrespect" by taking Liverpool's winning penalty against Besiktas ahead of Jordan Henderson.
Balotelli scored from the spot in Thursday's Europa League last-32 tie at Anfield to secure a 1-0 first-leg win.
That came after a disagreement with captain Henderson and Daniel Sturridge over who should take it.
Gerrard said: "Henderson is the captain and Balotelli showed Jordan a bit of disrespect there."

Half wish Henderson had taken it and hit it straight at the keeper.

All the other **** aside, the biggest issue from all this is the madness that Jordan Henderson is our first choice penalty taker when Gerrards not about.

Henderson's track record from the spot is one penalty taken and no goals.

Balotelli's is 27 goals from 29 taken (not sure if that includes the one tonight)

Whatever else can be said about Balotelli there is a good reason why he has been the designated spot kick taker at pretty much every club he has played at, and that reason is he is very very good at it.

Would have been foolish tonight to have had anyone else take that penalty based on Balotelli's spot kick stats.

Which more than likely would have happened.

100%. These should really be the last words on the subject.

Yeah his brilliant record at them makes it a no brainer . I think someone should remind Brendan that Gerrard takes them cos he's **** hot at them, not because he's captain!

He said he was disrespectful to Hendo. He said Mario would have known from the board in the changing room who was on pens and he was being mischievous by taking it off him.

ive no doubt that mario [by default] was the best person to take the pen. he takes the ball off hendo and then tells him he is the penomaster, hendo relents.

studge then wades in cos hendo wont let him take it but has allowed mario, or studge wades in cos he doesnt like mario taking the ball off the captain.
hendo walks away, muttering and shaking his head. looks like he didnt want to give up the ball.

mario scores a great pen, hendo seems reluctant to get too happy about it.

this is all bad enough, our acting captain looking flakey.

then gerrard wades in, about his own team on live tv. a ****ing disaster. out future manager

Yeah the second the penalty was awarded I screamed for ballotelli to take it, the clear standout penalty taker on the pitch. ****ing made up he scored. From the stand it looks like ballotelli asks for it, Henderson gives him the ball and it's only when Sturridge got involved that Henderson went back.

It's a tough one. I'm guessing Henderson was designated pen taker and u should in theory stick with that, but imo wince ballotelli steps on the pitch then he'd supersede him?

Don't think gerrard should say anything either. Keep it too "I don't what's happened as I'm not on the pitch, the important thing is we scored and won. End of"
