Fingers crossed for a sprain, 4 weeks out over xmas would be acceptable but I'd hate to see him out for the rest of the season with some sort of tear.

Dejan? On today's performance after a shaky start, I'd give Matip a chance.

He's hardly played all season. I'm sure he can play against Bournemouth.

I said before the game, I didn't see the point in resting TAA and shifting Gomez to RB. We could have played Clyne at RB and either rested Gomez or played him at CB.

Lovren and Matip will have to step up. To be fair to Lovren, he has been very good so far.

If we're super lucky we'll get a surprise signing in january, hopefully a defender. We're short 4 good players to be able to revolve everyone and support injuries with confidence.

The fuck do we need a defender for, VVD, Matip, Lovren and Gomez are remarkable options.

I don't think we can realistically expect better backup options than Lovren and Matip. I know Matip gets a bit of stick but he's a good option as 4th choice.

The only concern would be from a numbers point of view if Gomez is out for a long time, as both Lovren and Matip seem prone to missing games from picking up knocks

If you watch VVD closely, especially after a tackle or he has run/sprinted, he seems to hold his right hand side around the hip/ribs area. I recon he is still injured and is possibly still trying to recover.

Back end of Jan then.

I guess we (supporters) werent expecting him to be first choice CB this season. Dejan and Matip should provide decent cover.

Could have been a lot worse than 6 weeks. Still, it's a chunk of the season.

Frustrating but was expecting worse so relieved in a way.

Hopefully Degsy doesn't pick up every winter virus and cold going and stays healthy.

And stop putting our second best centre back at right back. Thanks. Ciao.

Matip is just backup to be used now and then, not relied upon. Lovren...well, theres many seasons showing why you shouldnt even list him as an option. Over the next 6 weeks we'll probably find out just how much we relied on Gomez and VVD partnership.

Great pity for Smokin' hasn't had much luck with injuries has he? Matip & Lovern have an opportunity now, Joe has been absolutely brilliant for us this season so they both know the standard required.

Obviously going to be a big miss as he's a super player BUT I do have a new found respect for both Lovren and Matip in our improved defensive setup.

They are both international class defenders and, if you look around some of the shite around in the league, they are amongst the better bunch especially as they are considered back-up.

Gutted for Gomez but genuinely pleased with the backup.

Matip was all over the place at the start of the Burnley game. Misplacing all his passes and he looked a bit nervous. Settled down ok in the end though.

This is what the squad is for, decent players like him will need to step up and perform well if we're to succeed this season.

I think Matip just needs more minutes, understandably rusty, he will start now at least the next three games and hopefully use them as an opportunity to stake his claim.

Frustrating him get injured whilst playing fucking fullback.

Would never have been in that position playing centrally.

Didn't look anything in the tackle. He's just a bit brittle isn't he.

Let's hope he recovers quickly and we don't miss him. Matip is very ropey and will be targeted.
