The next tournament is after next season, between 22/23 and 23/24. He could be shattered both physically and mentally again before we've even kicked a ball of the season after next (23/24).

Heís got 2 good breaks coming up before then. I donít think 23/24 will be anywhere as demanding of him as this season.

What is your point? He's got a break 6 months before the AFCON starts?

Heís not going to be playing continuously between now and season after next, so why should he be shattered both physically and mentally by then?

I'm not suggesting he will be playing continuously from now until the next tournament; I'm suggesting he'll play the remainder of the post World Cup Premier League campaign, then head off on international duty until the AFCON tournament concludes (if they get that far) 23 July 2023. Hence going into the season after next (23/24), he could be coming back shattered physically and mentally again, and not get a proper pre-season under his belt which might be a major hindrance (and opportunity for excuse-making antics) for the season (23/24) ahead, while draining massive resources from the club (presuming the contract impasse has been resolved by then). Avoiding this potential problem can be added to the "pro column" of cashing in now and reinvesting, IMHO.

Heíll be playing the remainder of that PL campaign off the back of a mid season month off. Then, Summer International tournament followed by domestic campaign is the routine heís used to and been doing most of his career. Heíll still get a short break post AFCON before beginning the next season, rather than going straight back into the middle of the campaign like this year. Itíll be a breeze compared to what heís just done.

That said, if he could sack off the international football, thatíd be ideal.

League looking a very long shot now. If hammers do manage to beat city on the weekend, then I guess we try and thump saints for GD. That would at least give us a fighting chance on the last day.

Need both hammers and villa to take points, not impossible but highly unlikely. No guarantee we win ours. The league is over

The league is done - but we have to remember how remarkably well the team have done to challenge to within two games of the season whilst getting to the European Cup final and both domestic finals, and winning one of them already!

AND there's more...

Losing our two top scorers half way through the season to the AFCON
Nursing our best defender back to full match fitness throughout the season
Integrating an 18 year old (perhaps prematurely) then seeing him badly injured
Dealing with the deaths of two parents (Klopp's and Alisson's)

I know all teams will have issues that I don't know about because I don't follow them but the above are pretty big deals even just by themselves!

You are forgotting the Jaco P guarantee

Saints ship eight and West Ham get three.

Then a final day with Wolves and Villa getting thumped and us winning the league by a single goal.

I think pretty much all of the significant league spots are settled imo. Those in the relegation zone will be relegated, the top three are done. Fourth is the only one in play and I think spurs will get it.

They may be, but until they actually are I am going to keep on enjoying the what ifs and improbables.

Relegation I could not really give a toss about other than I know that at least one club I dislike will go down one way of the other, and the rest of the top four outside of us I could care less about either.

Fouth place, third place etc only interest me if we were chasing one of those slots.

Looking promising for spurs at the moment at 2-0 up and a man up. Plenty of time for them to spurs it though.

West Ham have a more than solid chance of getting back into the Europa League… BUT. They have to beat City at home.

It’s our only hope.

Even then we'll need Villa to go to City and get a result. No fucking chance.

and if Villa miraculously win by a single goal margin, by the last game of the season we might well need to score something stupid like 10 without reply to win it on GD...

Sadly, we're no Bristol Rovers

Itís definitely not done

Whilst the odds are against West Ham taking points off Man City, itís not impossible.

If that happens, as long as we win against Southampton that would take it to the last day of the season where City would need a win against Villa to guarantee them the title. There is potentially a fantastic epilogue to Stevieís relationship with LFC, just waiting to be written.

Klopp asked us to be Ďbelieversí and after what he has done for this club, I think this is the very least we can give him.

Believe

If WH and Villa both scrap their way to draws, and we win both, then the league is ours?

A loss and a win for city and it comes down to GD?

Sadly, we're no Bristol Rovers
If West Ham beat City and Villa get a draw then we're champions (assuming we win both out games of course).

If West Ham beat City and Villa lose then we need to hope that it's only by 1 goal and in turn hope we batter Southampton and Wolves to claw back the goal difference.

If City beat West Ham then it switches around to hoping Villa beat City.

All we can do is focus on winning games, scoring as many goals as we can and seeing what happens. Would be nice to take it into the final day though, just to make City sweat a bit longer.

Would also be nice for Salah to put his scoring boots back on. In danger of being overtaken by Son at this rate!

Imagining the below happening and we win it on goals scored.

West Ham 1 : 0 City
City: 1: 0 Villa
Southampton 0 : 4 Liverpool
Liverpool 3 : 0 Wolves

City Points: 92
Liverpool Points: 92

City GD = 72
Liverpool GD = 72

City GS = 95
Liverpool GS = 96

Iíd accepted it the other night.

But the Aguerooooooo! anniversary stuff today has made the thought creep back into my mind.

Would be incredible if we somehow did it on the final day like that.

Would obviously require some chaos in both of Cityís games. Their equivalent of a Gerrard slip against West Ham. A Crystanbul against Villa.

Pie in the sky, but fuck it. Have to dream.

The miracle result and title delivered by Stevie.
I always think of the day Blackburn won it, that was similar. Man U just could not score v West Ham. It's all but done but just that faint slither. It's pretty much impossible I agree. Either way next time we play in the League either the miracle is on, or the League is won.

A "short break" post AFCON won't be enough after slogging away in the Ivory Coast heat for a month. Plus he's not getting any younger. Wear and tear of a career based on hard sprinting is not something to be taken lightly.

I wasnít aware I was taking anything lightly. It was more about reasons to be optimistic about the spread of his playing load compared to what heís endured this season.

Agree to disagree.
