But Alan Shearer, Jermaine Jenas and Danny Murphy might be sharing their wisdom.

Liverpool have confirmed their 23-man squad for the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar later this month.

The Reds are set to play two matches in the tournament, with games scheduled for Wednesday December 18 and Saturday December 21.

Joel Matip and Fabinho are not included in Jürgen Klopp’s selection as they continue their recovery from respective injuries.

Players suffering from illness or injury prior to Liverpool’s first match in the competition can be replaced in the squad up to 24 hours before kick-off.

Liverpool FIFA Club World Cup squad: Alisson, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Gomez, Adrian, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Lonergan, Shaqiri, Brewster, Robertson, Origi, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Elliott, Williams.

Glorified training games but it looks like we want to come back with the trophy.

There should be a period of 2 weeks (assuming we don't retain the CL) where we're simultaneously the champions of the country, Europe and the World.

I'm guessing we can expect Jones, Brewster, Elliott and Willliams to play, if they haven't been left at home for the cup game

Obviously some of that squad will play the Cup game and fly out. Being named in that squad doesn't preclude you from the league Cup game. The club as much when they decided to go ahead with the Cup game.

Makes little sense to play v Villa then fly out given the most likely game any squaddie would be involved in is the semi which basically clashes with Villa. Perhaps Lonergan or Kelleher but I think Brewster etc will travel with the rest.

He probably wants to make sure we go out anyway tbh, he once again expressed how much he hates the 2 legged semis so doubt he can be arsed with one that’s potentially against Utd or City.

From the article posted previously:

A final decision on the prospect of Brewster, 19, and Elliott, 16, for example, flying to Qatar after the Villa tie has still to be taken, but it would seem unlikely.

I couldn't care less. In fact I'd play kids in the Fa cup as well but PL has been quite clear about what the plan is. Winning mentality and all that. And today, boss man said this (unsure on the Elliott injury though):

"The situation is, in this moment, we have 16 adult players, so hopefully in two weeks, if everyone is available, we fly with the 16 there and the four boys come later," Klopp said. "It is a completely normal decision.

"They play the game the day before [at Villa], we play on the Wednesday, they come in and watch the game and they are available for the possible final or the other game.

Good thinking, sounds like if we don't reach the final in Qarar then minus zero shits will be given for the remaining game.

Club World Cup: Final host stadium switched by Fifa - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50697723

Fifa has been forced to switch the venue for the final of the Club World Cup in Qatar because the stadium where it was scheduled to be held has not been signed off.

The Education City Stadium in Doha was due to host Liverpool's semi-final on 18 December, plus the third-place play-off and the final on 21 December.

The 40,000-capacity ground is built but yet to hold any test events.

Matches will now be held at the city's Khalifa International Stadium.

The venue, which has a capacity of 48,000, hosted the World Athletics Championships in September and October, and was already scheduled to host two games in the seven-team competition.

Organisers believe the change will lead to minimum disruption.

On a different note, are many fans travelling for this? Presumably tickets are reasonably easy to get hold of?

Because of the politics?

(Getting to Qatar and staying there for a few days is miles cheaper than Japan).

Yeah. A few factors really. Japan would be a more interesting place to visit.

The politics of it. The drinking rules in Qatar. It's not a place you'd want to fall foul of the law and be banged up is it.

I think flights and hotel for 4 days is at least a grand. Plus tickets and spends.

I'm surprised Qatar haven't put cheap flights with their airline to get people over. They've spent enough money on everything else.

I hadn't looked because I have no more hols left this year. But on Expedia it's about £550 currently for flight and 4* hotel going on Monday. And eating out and taxis are cheap there.

Not so good for booze though as you say, in fact they raised the alcohol tax there a few months back IIRC. It might still be a bit less than Dubai though albeit there are fewer places to buy it.

Flying from where? Struggling to get that price one way from England on those dates.

Sorry Skyscanner not Expedia but I'm missing something - I'm not sure what

From Birmingham, looking at the whole month, the out is Tuesday and the back in on Saturday for a total flight price of £393 but when I go to the booking page I can't do better than £490.

When do we find out who we play in the first game? Our opponents play an earlier round don't they? When is that game?

Dec 13th, I think...Heingshuke Sports vs All Sadd, methinks to earn the right to play against Monterrey on Dec 16th then the winners of that will play us in the semis.
