Wow 2 from two. Absolute corker, bad luck that Root was on the receiving end of that. Almost unplayable.

those two wickets last night killed off any real chance, still decent effort considering those 2 in the first over then 1 run from Stokes

How shit is Dave Warner now

Has to be dropped surely. He's old and shit and to top it off a cheating cunt that nobody likes, even the Aussie fans don't like him.

Yeah poor old Davey, I must admit I do find it hard to feel sorry for him. Personally I think the problem is that Broad has done a deal with the devil down at the crossroads because he sure owns Dave.

So a disappointing if predictable outcome to the fate of the urn. Hopefully we can at least square the series at the Oval although I'm doubtful unless Smith contracts Dengue fever in the meantime.

Jimmy missing was a biggie, but equally I can't help thinking England might be a bit better if the players actually stepped onto the pitch for a four day game every now and then. The mindset needed for acquiring runs in the long form just isn't there unless you're Jack Leach, and funnily enough out of that group he and Overton have probably played the most county cricket this season.

Coincidence?

I don't think cramming 5 tests into 6 week period straight after the world cup helped either side. Schedule is ridiculous.

That - 27 - is the highest opening partnership in the entire series

Tim & the boys doing Root a few favours in that session. Winning the toss & bowling first then dropping those two catches. Denly should feel somewhat aggrieved that Smith didn't drop his.

Yup.

I love him but this ought to be Buttler's last chance too. One century in 35 Tests ffs, averaging about 20 odd in this series. Likewise Bairstow, averaging 20 odd all year.

Foakes must be due another chance.

What a stat this is:

Burns has scored more runs than Cook ever scored in a home Ashes

Stokes gone, Root will really need to dig in now. England have an uncharacteristically long tail.

Drop everyone

Was just comparing Buttler and Bavuma. Almost identical test records. Very different players. Middle order batsmen that get starts and can't do anything substantial with them (80+ scores). Their first class records aren't much better so it makes you wonder why they were even selected in the first place.

In total fairness, i'm not even sure England deserve 1-3, but for Stokes it would've been 3-0 which is more representative of the series.

I'm sure the Aussies won't be fucked though.

Without Smith it could've just as easily been 3-0 England, the Stokes comparison is just as pointless

Still maintain Butler should be keeper and captain.

Butler is always batting with the tail, yes he could have done better but I don't think that stat tells the whole story of the circumstances in which he bats.

Well he's saved himself for now anyway.
