Completely agree. These aren't like the rest of us, they have to be the very best. They'll probably give them a star for effort for this performance.

To put it in context, my mate Tezzer who is a big villain said to me a couple of years ago when I was moaning about our performance "Lance, you don't know what it's like to have your whole season over by October." And this lot are schooling us.

I hope this is a two-legged affair. Second leg back at Anfield? Can we put Naby and Shaq in?

Well fuck me, we have scraunched one! I put it down to our positive talisman Tribute who should be on this thread more often. Frauendorf swung his leg at it but there was a nice deflection from close range and in it goes. Entirely undeserved but here we are: Villa 2-1 Liverpool.

Shaq's hair definitely puts him in the youth team frame.

Come on lads, 15 minutes to scab another completely flukey goal and really put the wind up Villa!

Remember Shevchenko's face when Dudek saved from point blank range? That's how they'll feel inside those villains, like Schevchenko's face.

Why do they keep zooming in on McManaman? Do they think he’s going to come on for the last ten minutes...

Dreadfully poor shot by Balagizi but was it on target? We need one on target for me to not give up on them completely.

We have a free-kick at preposterously long range right in the centre. Surely we'll hit the target now?

We did not, but we have a corner which the Villa keeper takes confidently.

Another shit free-kick from Morton. Truly a poor performance from us today and the scoreline flatters us. If I was playing for Liverpool I'd be busting a gut every second of every match, not fudgeling around like I do.

In what is probably our last attack we get a weak header straight at the keeper. I think it's our solitary one shot on target all match.

And that's it, all over. Villa were miles better and won 2-1 despite Tribute's best efforts. Well done Villa. Liverpool youth, not good enough.

Villa even had a mini-Grealish lookylikey ... some wanker with a hair band and the same shite hairstyle as Grealish himself. Weird, stalky bastard...

Class act... or Djimi Traore?

That is a big fucking gap.

I must admit, I have only seen him a couple of times and was not impressed. But defenders can take a while to blossom (look at Phillips).

Saying that, I am not a fan of young centrebacks. We have only had 1 or 2 come through and make it at a reasonably high level in decades. I think that may have a lot do do with expectations on younger players, when centrebacks tend to mature a lot later when they gain more of an instinct for positioning, whereas forwards and midfielders can be a bit more maverick when they come into the first team and catch the eye with skill rather than discipline.

Not really sure what the answer is, as reserve players tend to get binned off by the time they hit 20. Phillips is the exception to the rule. Young defenders really need proper games to develop though, and they are not likely to get that here, so its catch 22.

Thats why I think Williams needs a loan now to help his devlopment (and probably for the next 2 or 3 seasons.I think Phillips came a long way last season through playing against some top teams. Ideally we migh have loaned him out too,but the rest of our defence aint reliable fitness wise

Koumetio is a kid. You prove whether you're a class act or not against Premiership teams on a daily basis. We don't know what he is yet. I hope he makes it.

Remember, we should be calling him "Champions League Cup Winner Djimi Traore"

Can you blame him? He needs to move to a team where he can get games.

Remember when he scored the Zidane spin own goal, or when he scythed down Jermaine Pennant. Or everytime he got the ball and the rest of the team had to come short as he could not accurately pass further than ten yards, or his headers that always went off at an angle... an inspiration to us all. I always used to think... "How???".

But it is what it is.

A goal is worth twice as much if it comes off the underside of the bar and goes in. Brilliant goal!

Sorry, have just seen this! I've been knackered mate, the covid wasn't too bad when I had it but I've been left absolutely shattered since the main symptoms have gone. Have probably been asleep when they've been playing.
