If what he was saying was about the short term then sure but footballers have shown when big money is on offer, some of them will go anywhere.

Just look at all of those who went to china, some in their prime.

He's spot on, the top players want to be in the CL and win stuff. Newcastle might have the money now but need to be at least in top 4 contention to attract the big names. They might be able to attract the odd mercenary now but they need to build a side that can get them into CL before going after the world's best players.

Man city got it to work, Newcastle will follow a similar blueprint I’d have thought. Give them 4 or 5 years and they’ll have an incredible team. If they get the oil money flowing, don’t forget City have spent over £2bn on players and infrastructure
