Could this be the first instalment of what turns out to be a classic sporting rivalry?

This has to be one of the most gripping match ups, regardless of sport, that I have watched in years.

Fantastic stuff

That's BBC Spoty sorted. Super impressive, actually hard to put in words.

Only qually to win an open ever, in her second tournament at 18. Yeah, she's going to be pretty special.

Think she may already be that.

Scary how composed her game is at such a young age and on such a big stage.

Just imagine her with say five more years experience to further hone her game and she will only be 23 at that point.

She's 5'9" and may grow a little more still

The men's game has become a bit stale, understandable when you consider the heights of the last decade or so

The first qualifier to ever win a slam in the open era.

That’s some achievement, unlikely we will ever see that again. She was so far off the radar for achieving this that the media hype machine barely had time to kick in.

Nobody was really talking about her until the start of the week.

An amazing achievement. She almost made it look easy. Almost no nerves.

That was great. Hell of an achievement. And didn't drop a set

Did anyone else think that every serve sounded like a let?

I didn't see much of it but absolutely. No idea what was causing it!

Thought it was a sound effect at one point. Seemed to happen any time a serve was over 95mph as you could see the speed on the screen behind them so maybe it was dropped in for tv viewers like the fake crowd noises for live footy last season.

I know there was some new type of ball being used as well, but doubt that could have made the noise.

The tennis shoes were very squeaky on the surface, maybe it was that?

Medvedev was very good last night, the commentators spent the entire match going on about how Djokovic didn't look physically there; for me he just got blasted off the court.

Maybe we're going to finally start to see the changing of the guard after 20 odd years with the 3 at the top

Would be apt if Fed, Djoko and Rafa all finished on 20 GS titles, the arguing over who was greatest would continue long after they have retired...is it Fed or is it Djoko (Rafa and his 13 French Opens makes him by far the greatest on Clay, but he is overshadowed on the other surfaces).

I just came here to say fuck you Djokovic.

He rips into Simone Biles, a world class athlete who's routines could actually kill her if done incorrectly, for 'quitting' for mental health reasons, then goes on to cry himself a new arse because 'pressure'.

Fuck off, you're as boring as Pete Sampras.
