2132: A number of major news sources are running with the line that Martin Jol is set to leave after the match against Getafe. If his tenure ends with defeat then it will be a very sad finale for the Dutchman.

Something like that won't stop Rafa if he want him. He signed Bellamy and he had done worse things than Berbatov.

Martin Jol’s reign as Tottenham Hotspur manager looked to have ended last night after he accepted a £4 million compensation package to leave the club. An announcement is expected this morning. Juande Ramos, the Seville coach, has accepted the job but may not be in place until the start of next season.
Tottenham are putting heavy pressure on the Spaniard to move to White Hart Lane sooner, but Clive Allen and Gustavo Poyet, the former Spurs player who is No 2 to Dennis Wise at Leeds United, will be in charge when Blackburn Rovers visit on Sunday.
Jol selected his final team for last night’s Uefa Cup tie against Getafe. The Dutchman appeared buoyant as he left the tunnel for the dugout before kick-off and gave no hint of the drama that was unfolding.
Even by the turbulent standards of Tottenham – four permanent managers in little more than six years – the latest episode has been chaotic. Jol’s position has been untenable since senior Tottenham officials made an embarrassingly public approach for Ramos in August.
Ramos said that he will remain at the Spanish club until the end of his contract in the summer, but Tottenham have been pursuing him since. They are likely to have offered him considerably more than the £2 million a season that Jol has been earning.
Allen, the reserve-team coach, is expected to take temporary charge until Ramos arrives. Ramos will be charged with turning around Tottenham’s fortunes, which presently have them in the relegation zone. Expectations of challenging for a place in the Champions League have been crushed by a series of poor results and performances. Jol’s decision to leave Dimitar Berbatov out of the starting XI for the 3-1 defeat by Newcastle United on Monday did not help.
Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, made it plain to Jol that only qualification for the Champions League would be good enough to prolong his tenure, given that more than £35 million has been invested in players this summer. Jol has led Tottenham to fifth place for the past two seasons, but a fractious relationship with some players and the board has left him isolated at the club.
He became embroiled in a battle with Levy and Damien Comolli, the sporting director, in the summer – and lost. Paul Kemsley, the Tottenham vice-chairman at the time, had wanted to remove Jol in the summer to replace him with Harry Redknapp, the Portsmouth manager, but the idea was overruled.
Ramos has an uncomfortable relationship with Ramón RodrÍguez, the Seville sporting director, but he has assurances, it is thought, from Tottenham about the role of Comolli.
Jol, who has a little less than three years to run on his contract, agreed the compensation package in August, as revealed first by The Times. Jol has said that he would like to manage a top club in the Netherlands, but so far, none have made contact. Jol took over at Tottenham when Jacques Santini was dismissed almost two years ago.

Could well be, though the difference in budgets between Spurs and Sevilla i'm guessing is huge so no surprise, he's probably getting his pay trebled or better. Seems to have taken them as far as he can aswell, they're never going to win La Liga after fucking up last season so time for a new challenge it seems.

My money would be on Ajax.
He has certainly been treated shoddily.

Just watched it unfold (or not) on ITV....anbeeleebable.
ITV's reporter said he asked Clive Allen what he knew about Jol's supposed 'resignation' and he looked stunned and seemingly knew nothing about it!
Total mystery. Jol didn't appear for an interview and instead headed straight for the boardroom.
What a shambles. I don't rate Jol but he's been shat on from a great height by Tottenham. They've handled this appallingly. An appalling episode with a suitably appalling end.

I think it's says it all when the Chairman smiles after a defeat.

£4 million pay off
Still you can't help but laugh at Spurs. Mid table club who got ideas way above their station. Top four indeed. Silly fuckers.

SSN's been fun for the last half hour.
One senior player has told SSN's Andy Burton that the players didn't know, until Jol went around the dressing room after the game shaking everybody's hand, telling them him and Hughton were leaving and Clive Allen would be taking training tomorrow.
Also reporting that his contract was terminated, and Jol didn't resign.

Houghton is a quality coach IMO and should be considered for a job by Rafa
He's really unlucky with getting the sack
