Do we think Gini is possibly Barca bound, but may stay if a) Barca fail to qualify for the CL or b) Koeman is no linger in charge?

Nah, given his age he’s looking to secure a lucrative deal and is in a strong position to get one given his contract situation. If LFC can’t offer him that its in his own interests to secure that elsewhere.

Seriously, I would have binned off my agent for getting him a crappy deal when first signed for Liverpool...it's like you finding out a couple of weeks later that everyone got rolex watches off the boss when you got a mickey mouse watch & nothing can be done about it!!

To be fair when he signed he was coming into a side that didn't have CL football, I think we had finished 8th the year before, so we were aiming to get into the CL (which we obviously did) and he would have got a decent pay rise compared to what he was on at Newcastle. His wage is reflective of where the club was when he signed, the reason every other first team player is on a higher wage is that they have come in when the club has been in a stronger position or they have signed new contracts. He has reportedly had a contract that would double his salary sat on the table for a couple of years and chose not to sign it.

Then who advised him not to sign it then??! He has lost a few million by holding out on his agent's advice!
Who's his agent btw? don't tell me it's that gobshite that ended Bobby Duncan's career?

Barca are a bit crap at the minute but I can't see them missing out on CL. Gini should have been on more money than we are paying but he is at that tricky age and we have probably decided he has missed the boat for a bigger contract.

I don't know who his agent is, obviously by not signing he has lost alot of money, I have mentioned this before in relation to Wijnaldum but the issue can't just be about money or an extra year, I think there must be something more to it wanting to play in a different league or a different challenge or whatever. And fair play to him if that's the case, he could easily have signed a 4 year contact a couple of years ago taken the higher salary and then part way through it said he wanted to leave, I'm sure if he was upfront with Klopp the Jurgen wouldn't have stood in his way.

What a rubbish time to leave. Can't see fans being back in Anfield this season to show their appreciation. Could be a few more who also miss out.
We are going to end up a legends game for the 19/20 title winning team followed by them getting on the 81 bus with the league trophy.

How bothered is Gini about all of this? He’s leaving. I don’t like relying so heavily on a player who has his eyes on a move away.
Lots of things changed since the turn of the year, but having one of our ever present players all but announce he is leaving isn’t good.

Who knows, but the evidence on the pitch suggests he's not that bothered.

I absolutely hate seeing players go through the motions.
Sending Minamino out on loan looks mental now also.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum tells Sky Sports: "You know what the derby means for the club, the supporters, the players - it means a lot and the loss is extra painful.
"The first goal we conceded, we tried to keep possession when the long ball came instead of clearing it away. In the first couple of minutes you should take less risk, a pass through the defence and they scored. One more chance after that and we were the better team.
"Losing players during the season upset us a lot. We cannot play the victims, we have to deal with the situation and not feel sorry for ourselves. We have to give until the end of the season, it is painful and you could see if on the faces of the players. That is the situation we are in right now and we have to deal with it.
"Winning games in the Premier League is always difficult and the injuries don't make it easier, we still have a squad who can change it around and we have to work harder to change it around."

Saying all the right things.
But actions will speak louder than words. He’s one of our longest serving players. A few of them need to come together and sort this out. There is zero leadership. There is with Hendo - but if he is out also we really are in the shit.

Superb last night, bundles of energy, carried the ball well and lots of drive and purpose in his play which has been lacking for awhile. When he's on it he's different class, hoping he carries this on to the next games would be huge for us.

That would be amazing, always fit and usually so consistent. Just this Barca move seems to have messed with his head.

If ever there was a time to avoid joining Barca though, this is probably it. Klopp gives him 100% trust, and he starts every game. I just hope his agent and the club can find a solution...

I'm sure he is, ie a massive salary with us. I do not think there are many transfers where the primary driver isn't money when it comes to moving from one big club to another.

Much better yesterday, which begs the question as to why he's been so passive in recent weeks. Hopefully this is the start of a good run of form because when he's at it, he's very good.

He's been told. No other explanation. Most times he got the ball he looked forward and made a dribble instead of sticking his arse out, taking 15 touches before passing to Nat. Sheff Utd were not expecting dribbles from Gini and Firmino and it showed in the confused looks of the defenders.
Rocket surgery explained to our coaching staff.

In the Chelsea presser just now Klopp said "our most consistent performer this season has been Gini Wijnaldum", then knocked on the desk (touch wood) saying "long may that continue"...

It’s come from Sandro Sabatini/Mediaset. Massive pedlars of transfer speculation, rarely reliable.

If we have learned anything form this season, it is the importance of having players that are available to play regularly. Gini is hardly ever injured (I probably just jinxed it) & apart from his form dipping after the Barca shit, he has been outstanding for us & incredible value for money.
