Good work by Peterson. Should have scored when he got clean through.

Nice run by McLaughlin there, cutting in and getting a corner.

Chance there for Cabral but lucky for us he's a galoot and can't control it inside the box.

Can anyone else hear that childish giggling? Hope that's not our bench.
Chaos in our box as it pings about the box, eventually our keeper takes.

Ojo steams through the Sunderland defence like a runaway engine but unselfishly pulls it back to the bewildered Peterson who duly fluffs like. Bad Ojo, should have taken the shot.

Yesil a bit rusty there. Can he come back from 2 serious knee injuries? Hope so.

McLaughlin, now on the right side, again gets a cross in after beating two. I like the look of this fellow.

Legs starting to tire now, this is where the goals start raining in. Hopefully for us. We've had a good 10 minutes here. Peterson doing well, imposing himself.

McLaughlin cuts in across goal and unleashes a fierce curling drive towards to the top corner to be denied at full stretch by big Maximillian in the Sunderland goal. Super play.

Lussey thrumps a hamish hotshot into the wall, out for a corner.

Peterson, again, beats his man and strides forward with purpose, Yesil can't quite get hold of it.
Then more great work and a one-two with McLaughlin into the box - glory in his eyes - but lead in his boots... It comes off the defender for a corner. Should. Have. Scored.

McLaughlin, with a tempting run, tiptoeing his way across the 18 yard box gets a little dink back off Yesil and tucks it into the bottom corner. Sweet as.

Keystone cops in our defence in the final seconds, corner to Sunderland - a wild drive by MacNamee heads towards the gasworks like a woeful comet and it's ALL OVER.
Relieved by the final whistle, the fury over, everyone happy.

Well, Peterson and McLaughlin were my stand outs there. Especially Peterson, I think this lad will make it, dominates in the air and perceptive on the deck. McLaughlin, frisky as a leveret in spring, all fizz but with great delivery and an eye for goal. Lloyd Jones strong in defence as well. First half we were second best I think but as the match went on we looked the more likely to score by far.
Not may goals but a satisfying win nonetheless.

Nice to see Teixeira scoring too. Hopefully all the encouragement I gave him last year has sunk in.

McLaughlin, self-deprecating in interview, looks like an extra from a million years bc. He wouldn't look out of place at the end of Das Boot with his wild-eyed look and saxon beard.
United next, this Friday I believe. Won't be able to make that one though.

Was a good goal by McLaughlin. Hopefully he can stay fit this year and get himself a decent loan move. Really needs to make an impact this year with Manquillo and Moreno now on the books.

Due to circumstances beyond my control there will be a truncated commentary of the U21s tonight.

This is usually a tasty fixture with lots of on the spectrum challenges, red cards and fierce language. Who can forget the cup match where Conor Coady was sent off and a number of United fans were thrown out for Hillsborough chants and other unpleasantness? At a youth match. It's like a Western version of Battle Royale.

Neil Mellor has come on as a commentator during these games. He's become slightly more professional, looking serious whilst delivering platitudes as is right and proper, but also retains a cheeky sense of humour. When's he's around the older commentators he calms down a bit like a set of rogue male adolescent elephants when introduced to a matriarch, but it still pops up now and again. Whilst his hairline is lower than a Janner's wit his ears are absolutely minute in relation to the rest of his head, like a baby gerbil's.

Yesil makes the bench, poor lad has taken to carpentry to justify his wages it would seem.

They're showing the Sunderland match from midweek and I'm just remembering how good Whatmore was for them. One to look out for.
