All things considered, I thought not winning the title last season was rough enough.
But to miss out like this, when we were absolutely walking it?
I just can't believe it

Just suspend it.
Also, I like the idea of a lower league contribution for all clubs who make a gate profit of over £x (I don't have a figure).

Whilst I am not disagreeing or offering any approval of our response. I think it has to be easier for us as an island to control the spread of the disease. Our borders are far easier to control, so any mistakes we make are less likely to be magnified.

I completely agree. It never should have went ahead and I think the result should be null and void.

I'll take whatever course allows this season to be completed.
But yeah, preferably with fans.

Trouble is how long do you suspend it for,say the end of the month like the dutch and with no let up in the virus so they decide on another 2 weeks then a month, then if no improvement they just cancel the season and start fresh in august atleast behind close doors we get some games and a finish to the season.

There's no way our response will be anywhere near as militant as China's was. But at least we can thank them for a successful blueprint for what to do when things go south.

It’s closing in. Rugby in Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy postponed indefinitely. I’d expect the Champions Cup to follow suit.

City have already had two games postponed. They have little chance of completing the season within the current time frame of the season.
Postponing the season is within this delay phase protocol but terminating the season completely would be a bitter pill to swallow.

We might actually be able to sneak in our next two games with supporters hopefully, Everton has suddenly become one of our biggest league games for decades, we’ll belt Palace if we have to, it’s all on this regarding a chance to celebrate properly.

BJ says there's no need to suspend the league or even play behind closed doors.

Even if you subscribe to that, the potential disruption when clubs themselves are affected seems unavoidable.
It'll be interesting to see how many of this weekend's (and Monday's!) games actually go ahead.

Ultimately it’s not the likes of us that it will affect.
It’s people more likely to be affected by the illness the elderly and the disenfranchised along with the already under pressure NHS and the other services. As Nicola Surgeon pointed out today large scale events involve the time of the services.
We have to ‘hope’ the decisions the Government are making now are ones that will ensure the impact in 2-3 weeks is minimised.
Is he doing that? Difficult to say, but seems odd he is going against literally every other country that surrounds us. You just have to hope he has the best people around him to tell him what to say.

Some of the rationale via the BBC:
Quote:
Other countries are closing schools, restricting movement and cancelling mass gatherings, such as football matches.
But health officials in the UK are taking a much more gradual, step-by-step approach. Why?
The obvious answer is that we have a relatively low number of cases so there is no need to take steps that will have profound social and economic consequences.
But we are also in this for the long haul. Countries taking drastic steps may well slow transmission. But how long can those steps be sustained?
At some point they have to be lifted and then the number of cases will rise.
If you can have some kind of controlled transmission, where the number of cases are kept low enough to allow the NHS to cope, is that a better way of managing it?
That's certainly what the experts and ministers in the UK have decided. They believe it gives them the best chance of saving lives in the inevitable spread of the virus across the country.

Makes sense on the face of it. The load on the NHS is the main thing, I read a report from Italy saying they were so ill equipped resource wise they were having to triage patients, literally making tough decisions on who will live or die.
We should definitely have a slower spread as we are a relatively small island whereas most countries in Europe have massive open borders and free movement, therefor we may well be much further away from the point at which to shut things down.
