He was too. 9.71. A US national record. But even that wasn't good enough!

he is a fucking phenomenon and it seems he can still improve on that time!

Gay ran the 100m of his life and still not enough!

Bolt is just amazing!

Gay hit his peak at 27, maybe he can get better. Bolt is 5 years away from his peak at least.

He says he can get 9.4, but that would be the limit.

Fuck, I remember when 9.92 was enough for Linford to win olympic gold!

He didn't even beat Bolt's chest thumping run.

That was just amazing. Bolt is the greatest ever, and it seems like he's on his way of getting under 9.5 if he wants to. I'm gobsmacked.

Staggering that the 5th placed ran 9.93.

I remember the days of Carl Lewis, Calvin Smith, Dennis Mitchell, Burrell etc, and in those days 9.93 would guarantee a medal, usually gold.

Nothing needs to be added.

And to think Bolt's start (or take off?) isn't very good.

Imagine if he improves his start.

Started well today. If he sharpens bits of his race he'll be even more incredible. If he could stay focused all the way to the line and improve his start he'll easily be sub 9.50.

Quite amazing that a guy who cant concentrate for 10 seconds can be the worlds fastest runner

But as mentioned above, he needs to improve just a bit on his start and he is below 9.5, which just a couple of years back was considered ridiculous to even think about!

His start is much better than it used to be. It was better than Gay's tonight.

I defy anyone not to find that race exhilarating to watch.

Anyone sensible that is, so that excludes fredo and carheex.

Haha good choice of word, it was totally exhilarating. I have no affiliation or ties with Bolt, none whatsoever (I realise this may surprise you ) yet I was whooping involuntarily, standing up and cheering. It's a privilege to witness such superhuman greatness.

I put my hands in the air like I'd won.

I then wondered why there were there and rather sheepishly lowered them.

He's fucking hilarious aswell, what a character. Theres a lot of incredible sportsmen/athletes about but not many that combine such character with it. Some of the moves he does and the stuff he says to the camera before a race is comical.

Cant wait for the 200m and when he starts running the 400m.

You reckon he could go sub 19 secs eventually?

Bolt is just superhuman!! That was just insane and he has not even peaked yet! I think sub 9.5 will be achieved before he is finished.

I know the injury is kinda genuine (although he did run 9.71 FFS), but is he running scared?

Quote:
Defending champion Tyson Gay has pulled out of the men's 200m at the World Championships because of a nagging groin injury.

The American had been expected to provide stiff opposition to Jamaica's Usain Bolt, who he finished second behind in Sunday's final of the 100m.

"Rather than risk further injury, I will not compete in the 200m. I want to help our 4x100m relay team," said Gay.

Bolt, who set a new 100m world record, runs in Tuesday morning's 200m heats.

Later in the day, Britain's world and Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu faces America's Sanya Richards in the women's 400m final.

Fellow Brits Phillips Idowu and Nathan Douglas go in the final of the triple jump while David Greene will be looking to upset American duo Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson in the 400m hurdles final.

Medals are also up for grabs in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, with Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi the only man in the field to have cracked eight minutes this season, and the women's javelin.
