Fantastic display really, as said by others, that header to stop Diouf was top class. Dare I say it, with Glen we probably concede there.

Will prove to be one of our best signings of the summer.

He looks an absolute natural footballer. Excellent game, if he gets an understanding going with one of the lads who play in front of him we could be devastating on the right hand side.

Did very well. Looks too much like Mark Walters for comfort though. Sort your barnet out, Nate!

Didn't do much offensively but defensively he was very solid.

His head clearance late in the 2nd half perhaps saved us from even losing the match.

Only one slight hesitation with Adam IIRC at the back stick resulting in a corner (eerily reminiscent of Glen), but that was probably his only misstep in the entire game.
Tried to get up the pitch early in the game with Ibe, but that settled down as the dreariness of the match took hold, but done very well defensively overall.

Solid as opposed to spectacular, but pacey and energetic enough to get up and down and pose problems. No complaints.

It's what our defence needs - solid defenders that give little away.

I think opposing teams are more likely to attack our left side.

great again. he was up against sanchez and most of arsenals threat down our right [according to bbc] and he was excellent. some vital interceptions, but often his excellent positioning and great work rate was enough to force them to go back and try elsewhere.

you shall not pass

What a fantastic start he's made. I thought he was average - a Finnan type but nowhere near as good. That seems ridiculous now, although it's still early days. Him and Gomez are making a huge difference.

I've noticed this earlier in the season (not sure about WHU at home as not seen any of it) and I noticed it again today.

Not sure whether it is something they are working on in training or if it is something he has always done but Clyne plays the ball far too early far too often. He'll beat the man and try and cross from 40 yards out when he has a quarter of the pitch empty space to run into. And the crosses have frequently been poor.

From what I saw of Villa they used to try and get a cross in as early as possible to Benteke. I'm guessing so that the defence doesn't have time to get into position to deal with it.

I thought Clyne was poor today.. Terrible in possession. In saying that everyone else was poor so tough to single anyone out.

Aston Villa did similar with a midfielder at RB in Bacuna. He had better delivery than Clyne. To excel in football you have to know what you can't do. Maybe he needs to learn that.

Looked very impressive on the left. Was great to see him driving down the line & getting as high as into their box...where he scored!! Brilliant performance.

a couple of good tackles but often guilty of too much back passing and dropping other players into the shit. it became obvious what he was going to do and then allowed the chelsea players to make a run on the second defender when clyne was on the ball knowing he was going for the back pass.

Disagree, he was sold down the river far too often at times, passed the ball after a delay meaning the only option he had to keep possession was to look backwards.

I've been impressed with him tbh. I'm not sure Milner offers himself for the pass enough which is why Clynne has to pass backwards at times.
