This is me. I've been out with the boy at a fair and looked at EST quite a bit. Then went to pub, got home, put him to bed (very late) got a glass of wine and a big bowl of WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT COME FROM?

Has there been ANY whisperings or even suggestions that we were in for him?

Absolutely nothing mate, crazy. Just some people hoping we'd sign him is about the only time his name has ever been mentioned with us.

Imagine what Arsenal must be thinking, it shows the power of the CL.

It wasn't too long ago Suarez was asking to leave to go there and the next year Sanchez turned us down to move to London.

It's so hard playing catch up, you need to get better than a side with access to better players. Long may it continue.

Surprised no videos have been posted yet -

Look at the way he intercepts, passes, drives forward and takes penalties. Also happy to take players on in the penalty area too which is nice!

We'll have genuine quality and options in midfield (barring further injuries) -

Keita -- Fabinho -- Henderson

or Keita -- Fabinho -- Fekir

or Henderson -- Keita -- Oxlade

etc

----------------- Allison

TAA ----- Lovren ----- VVD ----- Robertson

---------------- Fabinho

------ Keita -------------- Henderson

Salah --------- Firmino -------- Mane

Subs: GK, Clyne, LB, Matip, Wijnaldum, Fekir, Wilson

Squad: GK, Lallana, Oxlade, Solanke, Grujic, Brewster

a trio of Keita, Fabinho and Ox looks incredibly exciting to me. long way off as the latter is injured but its a real possibility now. so much pace, dribbling & physicality.

Even with Ox's injury does that look a little overloaded? If we're to believe Fekir could/might operate in a deeper role once he arrives?

Fekir can also play in a front three, similar to how Coutinho used to play. He did roam around in different positions in today's international game vs Rep. of Ireland.

I think as it stands that's probably about right, you need to account for injuries, Ox is going to miss at least half of the season if not more, Henderson and Lallana are prone to picking up knocks and Keita will get a couple of suspensions

I wonder if Fekir could be the cover for Salah and Mane, if he is to play in midfield maybe we will move someone on.

How Liverpool beat Europe to the signing of Fabinho the early details

In a whirlwind of events this evening, Monaco and Liverpool have both confirmed the transfer of Brazilian defensive midfielder Fabinho for an initial fee believed to be worth 50m plus bonuses that could reach up to 10m.

The deal caught many in the media by surprise, and is thought to have had a similar effect on the many European clubs that had previously been chasing the player.

The initial details are as follows:

Tlfoot report that the only other formal offer on the table for Fabinho so far this summer had come from Atletico Madrid, worth just 35m, and Liverpools 50m base fee bid thus blew the Spanish side out of the water.

Fabinho was focused on a transfer away from Monaco before the window came close to starting, with his initial preference having been PSG. However, with the Ligue 1 champions increasingly pessimistic about the likely negative implications of sanctions relating to Financial Fair Play infringements that are due to fall in the coming weeks, Fabinho was convinced to make an early move if possible, a deal that gave Monaco ample time to restructure their squad ahead of the new campaign, thus one away from Paris.

Paris United, the outlet first responsible for breaking Neymar & Kylian Mbapp to PSG, claim that the turning point for Liverpool in the race for Fabinho came in early May in a restaurant in Monaco called Maya Bay, where Monaco VP Vadim Vasilyev, Sporting Director Michael Emenalo and agent Jorge Mendes finalised details for the players departure and the exact conditions required for a deal to happen.

Manchester United, as reported by RMC last week, were in regular contact with Fabinhos entourage, but clearly distracted by other potential targets in this position, did not move with in time.

It's crazy to think that this time last year our record signing was still Andy Carroll and since then we have bought Salah, VVD, Keita and this guy for more than that amount, and there's a good chance we could sign 3 more players for for than that. Football is crazy at the moment

Speaking exclusively to RMC Sport, AS Monaco’s Fabinho explained the process behind his move to Liverpool, which was confirmed this evening.

“Contacts have been ongoing for a few weeks. I spoke with people at the club, with the manager, they gave me a lot of confidence. I wanted to go to a club that really wanted me, who showed great interest. With all that, it was easy to say yes. I thought about it a bit and I said to my agent that he could enact the deal. I am very happy that this has been done at the start of the window… I had two real choices, not just interest. I will not speak about other clubs. It is done, I am a Liverpool player. I had already decided.“

The icing on the cake is that he'll miss the World Cup along with Keita, Milner, Lallana (likely), VVD, Lovren, Robertson, Wilson, Grujic, Solanke and Brewster.

Plenty to work with there!

Liverpool move quickly to secure 40m Fabinho transfer from Monaco

Paul Joyce, Northern Football Correspondent
May 29 2018, 12:01am,
The Times

Liverpool have made Fabinho their first summer signing after sealing a deal worth an initial 39.3 million with Monaco for the defensive midfielder.

Discussions were concluded on a move for the Brazil player as Anfield officials wasted little time kick-starting their recruitment plans after the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid on Saturday.

Liverpool will lose Emre Can to Juventus after the Germany midfielder rejected offers of a new contract, and Fabinho was subsequently earmarked as the main target to strengthen that area and add competition for the role as a No 6.

Sources in France indicate that the deal could rise by another 4.3 million in bonuses, and a five-year contract has been prepared for the player. Fabinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, travelled to Merseyside with the player to complete the deal.

Jrgen Klopp secured a deal for the highly rated 24-year-old in what is shaping to be a significant strengthening of his midfield. A 52 million deal for Naby Keta, from RB Leipzig, was agreed last summer and will become official on July 1. Nabil Fekir, the Lyons forward, and Alisson, the Roma goalkeeper, are also primary targets for the Liverpool manager.

Fabinho, who can also play at right back, has been at Monaco for five years, having initially joined on loan, and boasts a good appearance record for the French club.

Jorginho, the Napoli midfielder, had also been under consideration after his eye-catching performances for the Serie A club, but Liverpool expect him to join the Premier League champions Manchester City instead.

Klopp’s move is not a reaction to Saturday’s defeat in Kiev, where Liverpool lost 3-1 to Real, but big investment in his squad was always planned as the club seek to build on the progress he has overseen.

Real’s midfield, marshalled by Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos, dominated after the enforced substitution of Mohamed Salah allowed the Spaniards to push higher up, and Liverpool need more strength in that area of the pitch.

Liverpool see Keta, the highly regarded Guinea international, as an attacking midfielder next season, while Fabinho would join captain Jordan Henderson as another option for Klopp at the hub of the midfield.

Klopp had shown interest in Fabinho last summer, but now Liverpool have landed their first arrival of what is likely to be another busy transfer window for the Merseyside club.

Fekir, the French international, would cost about 60 million, while Alisson is valued at more than that by Roma, who do not want to sell him, especially to Liverpool after their purchase of Salah for 36.9 million last summer. There has been a longstanding interest in the Brazil goalkeeper, which has now been heightened by Loris Karius’s mistakes in the Champions League final.

Salah will travel to Spain tomorrow for treatment on the shoulder injury he suffered against Real. The Egyptian football federation said that he was in “high spirits” and “determined” to play at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Adam Lallana will join up with England early, after the Champions League final, as he looks to boost his fitness.

Lallana is one of the players Gareth Southgate has put on standby for the World Cup in Russia, and he will meet up with the group tomorrow night with a view to training on Thursday.

The midfielder played 60 minutes of Liverpool’s loss to Real, the longest he has featured for the club since he played the full 90 minutes in the goalless draw with Porto on March 6.

Lallana’s fitness was compromised by a ruptured thigh and a hamstring injury, and he has turned down the chance to have a week off after the end of the season.

Southgate has a strong relationship with Lallana and has indicated that he would turn to him if one of the attack-minded players in his 23-man squad for the World Cup suffers an injury.

His Liverpool team-mates Henderson and the uncapped Trent Alexander-Arnold do not need to report for England duty until Saturday’s game with Nigeria at Wembley. England face Costa Rica at Elland Road the following Thursday in their second warm-up game for the World Cup.

Liverpool could add to their medical department by recruiting Philipp Jacobsen, who works for the rehabilitation department at Qatar’s sports medicine hospital, Aspetar. Jacobsen worked with Lallana when he went to the Middle East as part of his rehabilitation.
