Anyone got their pre-order in yet for Ronnie O'Sullivan's new fiction novel "Double Kiss" yet?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Double-Kiss.../dp/1509863974

Quote:
Frankie James thought his troubles were behind him. He’s busy running his Soho Club, and his brother’s finally out of prison. But when a postcard arrives from Mallorca, he’s stopped in his tracks . . . Is it from his mother – the woman who’s been missing for eight years?

When the goddaughter of London’s fiercest gangster, Tommy Riley, goes missing in Ibiza, Tommy knows there’s one man for the job – Frankie James. Just when Frankie was on the straight and narrow, he’s now faced with an impossible choice. If he agrees to help find Tanya, he’ll be thrown into a world of danger. If he doesn’t, Tommy could destroy him.

For Frankie James, old habits die hard. One thing’s for sure, playing with this gang is no game. But with everything at stake, how can Frankie say no?

Double-Kiss is the fast-paced, thrilling sequel to Framed, by snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan

TBF I always enjoyed the Dick Francis books, which were in a similar vein. Books don't have to be literature to be enjoyable.

A proper throwback of a final, to probably the last time snooker was popular.

To be honest they could just end the sport there and it would be kind of fitting.

He shaved his head overnight, I think the meltdown had already started

This lad isn't really an amateur though, he's been a pro for about 5 years but kept getting hammered and lost his pro status last season. He's Stephen Hendry's nephew

Interesting first post Geof.

"Anybody here called Jeff?"

Jeff: "Yes"

Geoff: "Yeos"

Anyway I like snooker. I'm also a big fan of Ronnie's new 70s porn star tache

Kurt Maffin Fined for fingering the ball

"Snooker player Kurt Maflin has been warned for giving the cue ball the middle finger in the 16th frame of his World Championship win over David Gilbert on Sunday.

Maflin directed the gesture towards the table after his bid for a maximum break ended when he ran out of position on the penultimate red."

I think there's a lot to be said about the loss of the old school snooker hall scene, from which you'd get basically scally working class lads who'd spent days and nights on end hustling in these places - like Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Ronnie. That scene, I assume, is dead now. I used to knock about a bit in my local all night snooker club and it was rough as fuck, but there'd be some seriously good players in there. I can't imagine that's a thing at all now.

I can't think where a snooker club is. Sure you've got Riley's knocking about and they have a table at the local social clubs but no proper snooker halls anymore.

The one is Chester wasn't making any money and Ricky Walden took it over and it didn't make any money still. Flats now.

We spent a summer about 25 years ago going to the snooker club after the pubs shut to get more drunk on cheap beer and completely stoned. By after midnight we'd be pretty much the only people in there and the buxom blonde permed granny doing the night shift didn't seem to mind.

If course, not being remotely into snooker, we always asked for "pool balls", cos it's a lot easier than snooker when you're in that state. I think my record beak otherwise was like 21

21 is amazing. Thats at least a 6 ball break if you were on the black after each shot.

I reckon mine is waaaaayyyy worse than that.

That was the thing - the cloudy, smokey atmosphere...we'd all be smoking weed in there too. Every chance you'd get your head kicked in, but it was late beers and somewhere to hang out, right?

Yep. I'm a member of my local Rileys but it's mostly about pool - hardly anyone plays snooker.

My highest break is 30 something, had a few in the 30s. In my head I'm brilliant, but alas.........

I've cleared up all the colours for 27 a couple of times. Some buzz that.

Problem is for us at our standard that by the time you get to the colours the colours aren't on their spots and are absolutely all over the place. The twice I cleared up the colours were against much better players than me, so the colours were either on their spots or not far off. Otherwise it's normally carnage with balls all over the fuckin place.

Hmm, when you put it that way, it was probably nearer 11.

I reckon I've put away maybe four or 5 balls absolute max and that needs one or 2 are literally hanging over the pockets.

I always get carried away after potting 2, then try and absolutely melt the next one in at 10 X warp speed, or try and put ridiculous spin on it. So mainly, yeah, I am fucking terrible at snooker.

Whats mad to consider is that 18.5m watched Dennis Taylor beat Steve (yawn) Davis in 1985. 18.5 MILLION people watching the snooker

There was fuck all else to watch.

That's my problem too - always smashing the shit out of everything. Hit everything waaaaay too hard. When they fly in witout touching the sides it's some buzz, so worth it imo

Yeah, we were only just getting used to have a mighty 4 channels to choose from back in '85.

Snooker players walked like Gods amongst us back then.

I think Golf will go the same way as Snooker. Who the fuck has time to play Golf???

But when my old man was my age, he'd be off for a days Golf every Sat am. without fail. Roll in steaming late on a Friday, no mobile so my Mum wouldnt have known where he was for about 5 hours. Up early and straight off out for the Golf on Sat ...They ruined it for the rest of us that lot.

Re, my own abilities at Golf, see, my abilities with Snooker
