Didn't realise he was 21 already, think he might have been better off leaving permanently and plotting his path back up to the top, than constantly being loaned out to different sides.

Most are. If i was a young pro I'd steer clear of any of the top 6 clubs. I think they're better off trying to crack the first team somewhere lower table or a good championship side with the potential to go up.

If they prove themselves then a big club will sign them. Maguire is a good recent example.

With Shaqiri coming and Origi staying his chances would be limited. I think they need to pick between him and Woodburn. 1 stays 1 goes on loan. There is no point having both in the under 23s...

I would send Woodburn out on loan and keep Wilson here. Wilson is older and looks ready and has benefited from a loan spell already.

I think people are too keen to see 21 as an age where someone should have proved themselves. A lot of players develop after that. I don't see what advantage a permanent transfer would be in terms of development necessarily. There are lots of players who get lost as the variability in terms of management/coaching is much higher as you go down the league(s).

Completely agree. How old was Drogba when he started to really have an impact? Iím sure there are plenty of other examples. People donít have the patient enough for players to develop and grow. Some take longer.

The position he is in if kept as a backup to the 3 would be great. He can learn from them, play with 2 of them at a time so itís less pressure. Heís got that momentum in his career which could be the difference at the moment as well.

Kane and Townsend are examples of players that took longer to make the breakthrough after a series of loan moves.

Have we ever loaned out a player that has come back and been a mainstay in the team?

No real high profile examples I can think of in recent times, but very few players come through the academy at all to become mainstays in the first team and a lot of those that do are already something special at a young age.

Ibe probably our most successful loanee I can think of as he came back for half a season and looked awesome and we then got a decent price for him. Other players such as Mellor, Warnock or Martin Kelly could have came back and cemented places but for injury.

Despite Klopp's initial reluctance to send players on loan, we do seem to be getting smarter with our loan moves (playing clauses, hand picking teams etc). Coupling that with Klopp's willingness to give young players a chance, you would imagine it's not too long before someone comes back from loan and establishes themselves and a genuine first team player.

Tripper as well. Although a better example of a late bloomer that we don't see too often these days.

Must be getting a loan fee for him now his stock is pretty high. I'd have liked to have kept him around but as long as he continues to improve elsewhere it's all good.

Disappointed he's not being loaned to a Huddersfield or Brighton.

I'm disappointed he's not staying and being given a chance here.

Direct, ugly and boring. Derby fans slated him and his style of play.

Ah fuck! Will suit Stoke but Wilson should stay well clear.

Be interesting to see the kind of football Derby play under Lampard.

Yeah I looked at a Derby site when their annual bottle job happened and Rowett ball wasn't popular at all even during the good times!

Lampard will be interesting, he seems very smart but the best of his career come under the dullest most vile manager in the history of the sport so wonder what way he'll go! It's a shame Fulham didn't stay down, they play very nice stuff, though on the other hand it's also nice they replaced the likes of Stoke in our league.

It will be interesting to see if they change their approach this season or try to park the bus at big away matches. (Fulham that is )

Good luck to him, hopefully he can rip up the league on a consistent basis, I was hoping he would get an opportunity here this season, but hopefully it will be good experience can he can come back in a position where he will regularly be involved for us.

Should be loaning him to a Premier League side as his next step up. He's already torn the Championship a new one.

Totaly agree. Pointless spending another year in the championship when he's proved he can do it.

Maybe no premiership clubs would guarantee 1st team, which is what he needs

Fairly certain that's the main reason. 75% playing time is a big ask for a PL club for an unproven player. That being said, I'm sure there were still PL clubs interested as the financial penalty for breaking the agreement would be less of an issue for them, but I imagine the club would rather develop the player and feel the Championship is the best play for this.

if he gets 75% playing time then he should come back ready for first team action.

Yeah thatís what weíre banking on. Possibly keeping Sturridge for one last season & then Wilson should be ready to replace him.
