I know logically and all that you are right, but honestly wouldn't you piss yourself laughing if he was on the receiving end of an agger elbow?

In fact, is it possible to loan agger back for one game just to do that?

So can we get this thread out of the Liverpool section now and clean this place up?

Nice, I mean, it pays for Benteke.

We did the right thing making City pay out their arse, great deal for us, just a shame I cant be confident in how we will spend it!

Wonder who the negotiator at City is? Tough as they come, he was determined not to pay that 50m and we backed down, well played sir, well played.

Strange but nice feeling this, getting a team to massively overpay us. Makes a change.

It's a bit shit the way this has all panned out. I honestly think he could've done with another year or two here.

I could understand him moving back to London with Arsenal or even Chelsea but City, fuck right off.

I was thinking along the same lines. 49m is an odd fee.

Laugh my arse off if he fails the medical and is forced to take the long walk of shame back here. Realistically I'd cry though because Id like that 49mill, but I'd definitely start off by laughing.

No other team in the world would have paid 49m for Sterling. Bonkers money!

A Utd fan that made his mark at Liverpool and went on to play for City.

Good riddance to him. We'll be a better team without him.

Raheem Sterling is a very good young player but he has not yet hit the heights of an Owen, Rooney, Fowler or Giggs at this stage of his career so there's no doubt 49 million is a great deal for Liverpool. The price is not something Raheem can control & the debate will rage about whether he's worth it or not but the price is more to do with nationality & potential, what he can become rather than what he is right now, but if he can take Man City to more titles & get close to CL success they'll deem it worth it.

It's now time for Raheem to do what he does best play football & show the Premier League the Sterling who was described as "The best young player in Europe" just over a year ago & you couldn't argue that fact at the time. I think he has the potential to be a star & one of the leading lights in the national team for years to come as we saw in the Italy game at the WC in Brazil.

From Liverpool's point of view it's a great fee & credit to FSG who have showed great strength in these situations since they come to the club which sends a message to other clubs & current players. Surely in the future though they will want to halt the exodus of Lfc's top players moving on.

We can all pick a list of bad players we have brought.

Why not include Suarez, Sakho, Sturridge, Coutinho or Can on that list?

Jamie's spot on there it's great getting big fees but we need to stop giving our best players reason to want to leave and start matching their ambitions. Selling players for big fees are great for the balance sheet but then spending big money on average players will get us nowhere which has proved the case.

Now we have more money to spend Im hoping that we use the money and buy a top class striker which doesn't include Benteke. Go all out for Lacazzete or Marco Reus. Show some ambition.

Many of the players who are down as being our best players who left, were not as well thought of when we signed them compared to the name they'd made for themselves by the time they left.

edit: ok, when i wrote the above i was sure there was a point i was making, not sure i remember what it was now though.

That's true but we got Sturridge, Coutinho and Can cheap. Suarez wasn't the big buy of the window he came in on, it was Carroll and Sakho hasn't proven himself yet. He still isn't our first choice centre back or even second.

Since our first American owners we have a long track record of selling our best players for a lot of money and blowing it on mediocre to shit.

Some of our cheaper buys develop into stars and get sold and the cycle continues.

Coutinho will be next, then Ibe/Wisdom/Can, whichever exponentially develops fastest to a stage when they are too good for our team and can be sold for a lot of money.

No way is sterling in the Torres and Suarez category.

We're selling a player coming off an indifferent season for Firmino, who is widely regarded as a great prospect. And making a profit, can't really knock that bit of business.

Fuck signing 'prospects'

Established, quality players is what we should be signing.

We fucked up last summer by signing 'prospects' 'projects' and 'potential'

Just look at United this summer. Going out signing CL quality players where last season we signed Championship quality. This summer has been good so far but we need to push the boat out. The top four will be extremely hard to crack this season and appears to be getting further and further away.

Let's sell the rest of the Shite and use to money to sign quality established players.

We're going to find it very difficult to get back in again. Just look at the table since 2009 and we've only finished ahead of Spurs once. I think sometimes we forget just how far we've fallen of late.

I agree. He failed to step up to the plate last season when we really needed him. Possibly felt the pressure but there's going to be pressure at City too.
