Joe Root says they may have misread the pitch in picking only one spinner

Not sure they've done the job

All three pitches have been poor, but the umpiring has been equally bad also.
England just add to that by being crap and not understanding how to play spin.
But I agree, 2/3 day test cricket is a bad advertisement.

That's part of the beauty of test cricket though. You're not sure what you're going to see. You could have an epic 5 day match that goes to the final afternoon or you could have a ripsnorter like yesterday that's finished inside two days.

It was pretty incredible viewing imo, I think any casual fan or a newbie to the sport would have been enthralled tbh.

They will then go on to book tickets at the Oval on day 3 and see South Africa bat for an entire day, losing only one wicket and think... “what the fuck”?
Best day I ever saw was a 14 or so wicket day at Old Trafford. KP knocking his nails off when his helmet came off, loads of beer and we got into a row with a dwarf in the Hotel bar near Old Trafford
Fast and furious test cricket is always a winner.
A ‘I was there’ moment.

It'll never be a 5 day test on wickets like that.

This is a big problem, TV won't keep shelling out for a 5 day cricket if they're not going to get even 50% of that. Test cricket is a 4/5 day affair at it's very best.
India clearly played better than England on that wicket but I've played on much better tracks at village level.
Had that been in the county championship the home team would have been fined and deducted points and no-one would question it.
One sided matches between two teams who are fairly evenly balanced on paper are pointless, one skill set is vastly overemphasised and another almost totally side-lined. I don't have a problem with some home advantage but that wasn't any form of a contest between bat and ball.

Pitch was obviously dreadful if England with one spinner in the team can bowl India out for 145 or whatever it was in the first innings

Well poised. Slight advantage to England as India has to bat 4th innings
