We're even lighter in midfield or he was never considered a midfielder. If it's the latter I guess Carvalho, Elliot and even Gordon take his bench spot.

I don't think he was ever considered a midfielder almost always played as one of the front three

Say it wasn't easy for him coming to Liverpool in January, then having to isolate on his own in Liverpool in the first Covid lockdown after that...I say the club would have been looking out for him during that period as couldn't have been able to bring family with him.

Must have been tough, and exacerbated by him not being that good.

Bang average, made a profit out of him which is great. French league is probably his standard.

Not sure he is bang average, just not the right fit for us, or the Premier League I guess - he's technically very good, quick thinking, two footed, eye for a pass and a reasonable finisher.
My problem is his lack of physicality - too slow to play wide, and not strong enough on the ball to play through the middle or up front. He just got knocked off the ball far too often or was 2nd to too many 50/50s to be effective for us
But can see him going well in the French league, or even Spain actually

He was a good signing if you consider the objective of his transfer from the clubs point of view and his impact in the cups last year as well as the transfer fee profit in a relatively short time

He didn't quite hit the heights we thought he might, but he was still a good signing. Had an impact, was pretty ruthless in front of goal, and was sold for a profit.
Not sure how Monaco play these days, but in the right setup, he's still a pretty good player.

We probably would have been trophyless last season if it hadn’t been for him

His lack of strength and pace was an issue but as 6th or 7th choice striker he more than did a job. To get a £15m+ fee for a player who has never been near our starting eleven in the PL is pretty good business too.
Did a fine job and a decent transfer given last season’s goals. Hope he does well.

On the flip side of that, we would have been a little fresher for the PL/CL & could have won them!
I guess we know why the quadruple was never done!
