Fair play to Viera, he shouldn’t have lashed out, but the way he just saunters off, no fucks given while surrounded by fans is pretty cool. You usually see players and managers run for their lives at the first sign of a pitch invasion.

Problem is, how do you stop them? You can't prosecute every one who invades the pitch, and there is no safe method of keeping them back?

Polar bears. Have a few around the place ready to rumble.

Crowd dashes onto the pitch, let the bears out.

Problem solved.

Though now we have bears on the pitch.....

African Elephants. Have a few around the place ready to rumble in case of bears.

The Ev surviving relegation on the final day on goal difference would be their plateau of euphoria, that's a true, achievable target

They need to celebrate something, they've won fuck all since 1995, a couple of relegation fights in which they managed to stay up is all they have celebrated since. It must be shit being a blue

With the pitch invasion, the FA should just ban their fans for a game (or a few games) next season

Something has to happen to stop it. Maybe the match should have been abandoned and defaulted after the first invasion.

Something drastic does need to be done before someone gets seriously hurt. I think docking them points would be a good way to start. Realistically it would be points docked at the start of next season though, not this one.

We had about 300 stewards yesterday (it probably still wouldn't have stopped a pitch invasion if we'd won though), but I could barely see any at the Everton game. That is pure negligence given the circumstances of that game.

The problem with docking points is there would need to a be a threshold it crossed. You couldn't dock points for a single person as it would definitely be used as a weapon by fans of other teams. So where do you set that level? 50? 100? Proportional to the capacity/attendance?

True, it is a complicated one.

I think what Buzzo said about banning any fans identified needs to happen too.

Then the clubs need to do all they can within reason to prevent it happening in the first place (I honestly don't think Everton did). And supporters need to be scared enough to not invade the pitch.

Let’s be honest if any of us were at Anfield and won the League and people rushed the pitch, we’d all be tempted to go.

If getting caught meant a lifetime stadium ban, then you are going to think twice.

I don't blame them, same as City as you say we'd probably do the same. Unfortunately though, it gives some overly emotional undesirables a chance to get up close and personal with certain opposition players and staff .... which is never going to end well & is dangerous in the tribal world of football.

Middlesborough banned for life the father of a kid who ran on the pitch during their play off game because the dad encouraged him. Reckon the dad must be feeling pretty stupid now
