That would be awesome though.
But I'm not sure he needs £12m.

I was only half joking!

He could probably buy them for a quid but he'll need lots of spending money!

Don't suppose anyone subscribes to this....?

Edit: found this -

'I didn't trust Newcastle board', says Benitez on club exit

Rafa Benitez has said Newcastle United's "unfulfilled promises" during his three-year spell as manager and a loss of trust were the reasons why he left the Premier League club last month after his contract expired.
Benitez failed to agree a contract extension with club owner Mike Ashley at the end of June and took a job with Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang.

Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley claimed in their opening weekend's match program that Benitez had left "for money", prompting the Spanish manager to respond and go public with his reasons for leaving.

"Newcastle's board had a year to sort out my contract but, when we met after the end of last season, they didn't make me an offer I could accept," Benitez wrote in his column for The Athletic

"They told me they didn't want to invest in the academy or the training ground... I can explain the reason why Mike Ashley refused to do that.

"Their idea of a project was a policy of signing players under 24 and... the budget available was not enough to compete for the top 10. After that meeting, I knew they would not come back with a serious offer.

"When it arrived, 19 days later, it was for the same salary as three years earlier and with less control over signings. After three years of unfulfilled promises, I didn't trust them."

Despite a relative lack of investment in the squad, Benitez defied expectations to lead Newcastle to a 10th place finish in their first season back in the top flight and 13th last season when relegation was a distinct possibility.

"When we finished 10th in the Premier League in our first season back, all players and staff were paid a bonus — aside from my coaching team," Benitez added.

"That felt like a punishment for me not signing an extension. So, by the end, I knew there would not be a proper offer and they knew I was not signing.

"The time was passing and we were losing job opportunities in Europe. I couldn't wait forever. I'm a family man and I have a responsibility to them, my staff... and their families, too. I don't like to gamble with the future of my people."

Newcastle eventually appointed former Sunderland and Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce as Benitez's replacement.

He does say he's responding directly to a claim made by their MD in the last match day programme. Seems reasonable that he should have a right of reply.

Plus Ashley who apparently doesn't give interviews, had his say a few weeks ago too in the Guardian (I think).

Athletic article about Benitez funnily enough. For those not interested in Rafa, or prefer their articles to fit in a Tweet, don't bother.

Thanks for posting mate.

Very sad news about Rafa’s mother.

Love the man but his choices since leaving us have been absolutely baffling. Hopefully he finds another club soon and does well.

The Newcastle job would have been really interesting to find out if football really has moved on too much since his heyday, or if he has just been that unlucky and would succeed again with proper support.

Feels like he made a deal with the devil at half time in Istanbul and has been paying the price since.

Yeah very much so. Newcastle seemed to fit really well and the fans loved him.

Working under Ashley was always going to be a challenge so the timing was against him there.

Wonder where next.

I can see him at a decent mid level club like Leicester or Wolves & doing a good job.

I don’t think his stock is that high. Think he’d need to drop a division or go to Qatar or such like.

Yeah I can’t see him managing in the PL anytime soon. In fact I doubt he’ll do so ever again tbh.

Not now. Howe has done pretty amazing considering the position and Jan recruitment of Trippier whos been out since he signed.

Guimeres has helped. But he isnt responsible for that turn around.

It was pretty funny hearing the Rafa song get an airing yesterday, a bit embarrassing for him, but funny nonetheless.

He'd have been nailed on IMO if Howe hadn't performed, but no way they can get rid of him now.

Maybe we should take him on as goal kick coach.

not so sure. Obviously Howe has done a great job, but who knows what kind of owners this new crowd are. If Benitez is their #1 choice, then maybe they would just go for it.

Probably unlikely but who knows. If they think that Rafa would be able to attract better players and take them to the next level, then they could end up doing it. Emery was favored ahead of Howe and now with this athletic article, it looks like Rafa was favored ahead of them both. If they were prepared to buy out Rafa's everton contract, then they won't think twice of paying off Howe now. Unless of course they now think Howe is doing a brilliant job (he is) and is the best choice.
