So far I think its more a sideways move, a little more positive than negative, but is it enough to bridge the gap and get us back in the top 4?
As much as some will say they're good improvements, we're talking about Ings moving up a level, Origi moving to a new country and up a level, and of course a new league for Firmino. There will more than likely be a transition period for these players, my main concerns being Origi and Ings whilst Studge is injured/recovering.
I think Utd and Arsenal will be stronger this season, as too will City, so its going to be a big achievement to get back in the CL.

we are generally replacing dross or players past their best with others that can make a better contribution to the team so its much more positive than just swapping one body for another.
we still need to clear some dead wood/loanees out, and still need a beefy holding midfielder. then we might be able to hold our own against the mighty stoke.

I'm pretty sure we'll see another forward/ striker brought in as well. Probably one of Bacca and Rondon going by the reports.

That and a proper centre back and I'll feel a lot more positive.

He does have touch of arrogance and swagger about his play, not seen that since suarez.

Tbh I just didn't have any faith in us getting quality signing over the line, this is the type of player we NEEDED last summer. Everybody has been saying we can't sign top players but we can, we just need to identify them and pay for them.
I think a signing like Firmino transforms the other signings, suddenly Milner and Ings look like good signings, we have Origi coming in and possibly Clyne. Let's say Sterling, Lambert and Borini leave.
Milner > Gerrard
Firmino > Sterling
Origi > Borini
Clyne > Johnson
Ings > Lambert
Bogdan > Jones
Then we have Wisdom, Illori and Gomez in and Ibe for the whole season. Not having to deal with the Gerrard situation will be relief for Rodgers as well.

Delighted with this, first bit of good news all year. Not like us to keep things so quiet and get it done rapidly as our transfers tend to drag on all summer. Brilliant signing, genuinely one of the best players in the Bundesliga

I'm properly back in to football again after this signing.
Don't normally do these but hey...
-------Firminio----Bacca-------
-----------Coutinho-----------
-------Milner-------Hendo-----
-------------Can-------------
Moreno---Sakho--Skirtle---Clyne
-----------Mignolet----------
Subs: Sturridge, Lallana, Ibe, Lucas, Illori, Wisdom, GK
That team can definately compete for top 4, win a cup and go deep in the Europa.

I look forward to playing without a dedicated defensive midfielder. Fuck them.
This is all good.

I think that Milner - Hendo - Can midfield trio could be awesome for us. Three big physical lads, but mobile, loads of energy and running, and of course each of them a wonderful technician!
What I like about Firmino is that he is a "real 9 and a 1/2" ala Sturridge and that Uruguayan dude.
We're gonna play with two 9 and 1/2's again

And actually highlights how good a season Firmino had 2013/2014, it was very good, but what is missing from there stats pack that he makes tackles and interceptions on par with central midfielders like Henderson and Milner.

He can really strike a ball, much better then Sterling IMO, and only three years older as well. I reckon he could even step up his game with Coutinho and someone like Sturridge.

No midfielder over the past two seasons has been directly involved in more Bundesliga goals (scored & assisted) than Roberto Firmino (44).
Roberto Firmino has executed the most through balls in the Bundesliga over the past three seasons (27). So precise.

I think the posters on redcafe ascertained that he didn't come out on top when you looked at minutes, Robben got 41 in a lot fewer games and Muller wasn't counted. But still, impressive and I'm delighted.

BUT, we can't have two through balls specialists and a static striker so Benteke better not be an option now!

We need to look at a forward who can get on the end of these through balls then. Coutinho and Firmino now. Both specialists in that.
