They battered us that day. That was an arsenal team in its pomp.

It was. Could have been about 4-0 before we scored. Henchoz playing as back up keeper.
A sweet win though

Probably the last time the FA Cup really meant something...to me anyway. 2006 was incredible but it was how it was won and the circumstances that were incredible....by then the competition, in my eyes, felt devalued.

Yeah, it was a big deal back in 2001.
Pretty soon after teams started playing the stiffs in the early rounds, and now, pretty much every team swerves putting a strong team out until the 1/4's at earliest.
I got absolutely smashed that day, I remember that much and it was a touch watch until the last 10 mins

My mate is a Glentoran fan here in Belfast as well as a Red. That year they also done the treble of cups. He went to all 6 finals and won the lot. That will never be repeated.

I remember the day well as it was my birthday, got absolutely smashed before the match started at the pub. Remember very little of the game, missed the end of the match and woke up face down on a pavement down my street. Someone nearly run over my ankles apparently. Great game.

Haha yep was also extremely pissed. We started at about 10am that day.
We ended up in a bit of a scrap later that evening, that became known as 'The Pea Incident'.

I only really care about the FA Cup if we get to the quarter finals or something, before that it just feels like it gets in the way. Back then the magic of the FA Cup was still alive.

We went for something to eat after the match, totally arseholed, and one of the lads kept flicking peas at another table of lads and incredibly as we walked past them to leave they stood up and started a fight with us

yeah good shout. Definitely with the last goal. So knackered that all he could do was smack it home from 30 yards in the last second of the match. It is an unbelievable strike
I was actually at Hampden that day watching Hearts struggle to get past Gretna in the Scottish Cup Final. Got smashed that night as well #goeswithoutsaying

Nope, we drew there. We won the tie by winning 2-0 at Anfield.

This almost goes without saying it seems. But I got totally wrecked watching that. Watched it in Gregor Townsends old bar, the 3/4’s in the Grassmarket. Loads of Spanish supporters in there. When the winning goal went in it was carnage, beer everywhere. And when everything settled down the only 2 pints that had survived were mine and my mates

That game was completely nuts 5-4 in a cup final

We were absolutely cruising threw it away through complacent. Fought back to get in front. Threw it away AGAIN then stole it in Extra Time.
Was a classic LFC cup final rollercoaster.
I maintain the 2-0 v Spurs was an absolute walk in the park compared to pretty much every LFC final I’ve witnessed.

Hmmm, I hated that CL final against Spurs as I thought we were crap most of the game. Couldn’t keep hold of the ball and pressure from Spurs was relentless until Divock’s goal. We had to rely on poor finishing from them.

Yeah it was a shit match, and we didn’t play great... but, basically we were always in control from the first minute. Didn’t have the ebbs and flows and raw terror of a typical LFC final.
No final is ever going to be nerveless and the same, I couldn’t relax until we went 2 up. But Spurs offered so little, I don’t recall endless pressure. They were as poor on the ball as we were. They had a late flurry of chances, but that was only to equalise so we were never even close to losing.

Didn’t get wasted for this one. Because I was only 14. It was a nerve shredder so I would have given half the chance.

In years to come today’s result of finishing 3rd to secure CL Football despite being in 8th spot 2 months ago will be talked about fondly. 26 points out of the last 30 available in incredible & worthy of folklore.
